Summary
This position is for a hydraulic engineer in our Blaw- Knox engineering department. The position will primarily focus on the hydraulic system integration within the asphalt paver platform of products. We are looking for people with excellent communication skills that can effectively work with our small, agile, and evolving department while having the desire and ability to help other functional areas when required. The ideal candidate should have an interest in off-road vehicle hydraulics and hydraulic systems. In addition, the Hydraulic Engineer is the subject matter expert and responsible for engineering design, documentation, testing, and technical support of both field and manufacturing issues and should be able to work independently. The job requirements include supporting senior engineers with hardware installations, machine and component level testing and troubleshooting. The candidate should also be familiar with hydraulic system integration and other test instruments that support product maintenance and development.
The successful candidate must also realize the importance of customer, production, and quality requirements within product development.
Core Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities for the candidate are:
- The Hydraulic Engineer is the subject matter expert and responsible for engineering design, documentation, testing, and technical support of both field and manufacturing issues in the areas of hydraulics
- Primary design responsibility for hydraulic systems on Blaw Knox products
- Design hydraulic layouts in CREO, build hydraulic schematics and create supplier drawings.
- Responsible for the selection process for all purchased hydraulic components.
- Prototype designs and work with the supplier(s) to optimize design for cost and quality.
- Lead and / or oversee failure and root cause analysis of hydraulic components and systems and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Lead design improvements that increase reliability or decreases downtime and cost
- Provide technical support to all functions of the business
- Coordinate with operations, purchasing and manufacturing on a regular basis.
- Troubleshoot system level machine and component issues.
- Secure designs that are compliant with standard requirements and industry standards.
- Prepare written reports or presentations on completed work.
Essential Skills and Needed Experience
- 3 - 5 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology. An Off-Road Equipment minor is preferred but not mandatory.
- Attention to detail and focus where the needs of the business are paramount vs. patents and revolutionary ideas.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in hydraulic systems.
- Interest and demonstrated successful experience working on heavy duty vehicle hydraulic systems.
- Experience working in an industrial environment.
- Must have the willingness to work with manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot hydraulic systems.
- Experience in mechanical systems with ability to remove and replace components on a machine.
- Excellent communication skills
- Fluent in English
- Must have the ability to stand for lengthy periods of time and the ability to lift 50lbs. with no restrictions. In addition, the ability to endure hot, dirty and humid environments when troubleshooting and testing machines.
