The Director of Transportation is a key leader at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include:

Requirements
The Director of Transportation is responsible for the oversight and direction of the Transportation Dept. and staff in accordance with policies and procedures as applicable for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, as well as Hope Network policies. Other specific requirements of the position include:

  • Leadership: Lead and supervise all activities of the staff with focus on safety, quality of service, efficiency, and budget. Investigate and correct any noncompliances. Develop and coach staff for opportunities for advancement.
  • Administration: Maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of operations on a continual basis. Ensure the necessary compliance and highest quality for services.
  • Community Leadership: Represent Hope Network consumers, families, guardians, and community agencies/businesses and outside agency personnel demonstrating the highest level of professional accountability. Ensure collaboration with funding and referral agencies.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Demonstrate full responsibility for the creation of the annual budget, with ongoing management of the budget.
  • Communication: Creates an environment that encourages and promotes two-way communication, pro-active problem solving and innovation.

  • Responsible to direct, monitor and ensure the total compliance and highest quality of day-to-day operations for all program services offered by the affiliate. Adheres to agency, funder, and licensing body standards to ensure reporting and documentation standards are met.
  • Ensure maximum operational effectiveness and efficiencies through activities including but not limited to: budget reviews and variance reports, customer satisfaction, driver performance, and other key operational metrics and trend reports. Directs change management to positively affect the metrics.
  • Maintains the highest level of quality and provides guidance and feedback when corrective measures are required. Seeks to find and implement best practices in all functions.
  • Develop appropriate, positive, proactive and mutually beneficial relationships with political, regulatory, funding agencies and local businesses within the community. Respond to funder concerns and census data to ensure programs meet or exceed agency and funder expectations.
  • Develop and maintain positive, open, and honest communications with Hope Network leaders and will advocate for services on behalf of the consumers and employees.
  • Champion opportunities for collaboration and coordination consistent with internal departments – accounting, finance, Human Resources, general counsel, facilities, marketing, IT, and program leadership at other affiliate locations to increase efficiencies across the organization, increase collaboration, growth and the successful implementation of services.
  • Promotes positive working relationships with employees at all levels to promote cooperative positive work environments, strong employee engagement and takes appropriate action to create an environment of high employee morale that results in good quality of care to Transportation customers.
  • Participates directly or through appointed designees in policy and standards development and review.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources as appropriate to ensure that people resources are effectively and efficiently deployed and that employee relations issues are appropriately dealt with and fairly resolved. Champions the development and advancement of employees based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and career goals through training, succession planning and performance management.
  • Participate in training that promotes sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic diversity and actively promotes related activates within affiliate.
  • Builds, equips and empowers necessary leadership to achieve the organizational goals of Hope Network and affiliate goals of HNWM.
  • Maintains all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements of state, local and national governing bodies.
  • Responsible for vehicle management and coordination of necessary services, working within the budget.
  • Manages capital and operating grants from the Michigan Department of Transportation and other funding agencies; Meets all application and reporting requirements of funders.

Educational / Talent Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Management or Business Administration or applicable experience required.
  • Ability to think strategically and implement locally across various settings of care.
  • Communication skills to engage and inspire varied audiences from Board to front line.
  • Ability to make sound decisions using data driven analysis.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet agency-driving standards.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Five years' experience within the transportation field, preferred.
  • Experience with FTA section 5310 programs/contracts, preferred.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships at multiple levels of the organization and in concert with both internal and external partners.
  • Experience in grant management preferred.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience including annual budgetary responsibilities.
