Facility Maintenance

We are seeking a part-time facilities maintenance person to become a part of our friendly and passionate team

Your primary responsibilities will be to maintain our Metate Ranch tour and event spaces using hand and small power tools. You will also assist with set-up and clean up for weddings and corporate events at our outdoor event venues.

General Landscape and Maintenance Responsibilities:

• Maintain our outdoor facilities in a tour and event ready condition at all times
• Daily general repair, maintenance, and clean-up of all ranch areas, equipment, and facilities using hand and small power tools (drills, saws, sanders, etc.).  May include painting, sanding, digging, small construction projects (such as building picnic tables and benches or small temporary structures), repairing kishes and the long house, leveling and repairing walkways and foot paths, etc.
• Complete maintenance and repair work in a timely fashion
• Adhere to preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment
• Order and replace broken parts or equipment
• Clean and sanitize portable restrooms
• Operate and maintain generators, compressors, a UTV, compact tractor, and other work equipment and vehicles
• Maintain the wiring and lighting for our generator-powered lighting system
• Install and maintain irrigation pipes and drainage
• Assist with daily landscape upkeep including weeding, raking, watering, and trimming. Collect and remove trash. Clean out and maintain pumps for waterfalls, stream, and fountains. Clear reeds from ponds. Remove downed palm fronds from the oasis area. Remove and clear debris on roads and trails.
• Maintain dirt roads and trails - Drag and water the roads to keep them accessible by buses and other vehicles. Remove rocks from from roads and trails. Clear obstructions and repair dirt roads after rain and other weather events using a compact tractor.
• Maintain a clean and a safe work space - clean up and put away tools at the end of each shift
• Clean and maintain UTV and other work vehicles

Event Set-Up and Clean-Up Responsibilities:

• Set-up for weddings and events - move and set-up picnic tables per the event order, wipe down all benches and tables, set out pillows, cushions, and game equipment. Put on tablecloths and set-out centerpieces. Set-up lighting. Set-out trash and recycling cans, Other preparation of the facilities as needed per the event order. Assist with the delivery and set-up of generators, portable bathrooms, heaters, and other rentals. Drag and water dirt roads for bus access.
• Clean-up after weddings and events - remove and store lighting, games, tables and benches, pillows and cushions, centerpieces and other décor. Empty and sort trash and recycling. Pick up cigarette butts, plastic utensils, and other trash from the ground. Rake and return facilities to tour ready condition.

Other Responsibilities:

• General ranch security during work-hours
• Maintain accurate timekeeping records
• Perform other duties, as assigned
• Assist with tour vehicle break-downs - bring back-up vehicles to stranded tour groups, help move disabled vehicles down to the parking lot/paved road for towing to the mechanics

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
• Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully to guests, vendors, and coworkers
• Previous experience in maintenance, landscape, or other related fields
• Familiarity with hand-held tools and equipment
• Deadline and detail-oriented
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to exercise good common sense and judgement
• Ability to follow directions as well as think independently to solve problems
• Ability to work outdoors year round (in the summer we only work in the mornings)
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds
• California driver's license and clean DMV record (no DUI's and no more than one ticket for a moving violation or accident in the last 2 years)
• Must have reliable transportation and insurance
• Must be reliable, dependable, trustworthy, have a good attitude, and strong work ethic
• Must be fully vaccinated for COVID (proof of vaccination required for employment)
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
• Flexible schedule
• Ability to work weekends and holidays
• Legal right to work in the US

Desirable Qualifications:

• Jack-of-all-trades / handyman
• Carpentry skills
• Electrical and/or lighting background or experience
• General construction background or experience
• Landscape maintenance background or experience
• General automotive experience or knowledge
• Ability to be on-call
• Ability to work more hours as business needs dictate
• Ability to operate heavy equipment - skip loader, excavator, fork lift, etc.

Metate Ranch is the primary tour and event location for Desert Adventures, consisting of about 800 acres of pristine, private property in the Indio Hills (off the north end of Monroe Street in Indio). Metate Ranch features include a natural palm oasis, winding canyons with unique geologic features, several picnic areas and outdoor event spaces, including the Enchanted Desert, our primary wedding and event venue. This is a part-time hours per week) position.  Your schedule may vary from week to week, based on business demands, and may require working weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.
