MOTOR VEHICLE MECHANIC (MVM)

Full Time, $36.11/hr. + $9.91/hr. Fringe

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic position works closely with Vehicle Maintenance Lead Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair and overhaul a wide range of both general and special purpose vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Thorough knowledge of LT/HD Vehicle Diagnostics w/ scan tool support

Multi-point Checklist Inspections

HD Vehicle Repairs/Overhauls

Vehicle Modifications

Ability to work / solve problems independently and as part of a team, with limited supervision

Time management skills / Basic computer skills

Should be organized and know how to maintain shop equipment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform preventative, minor, and major maintenance repairs on a vehicle fleet composed of a variety of light, medium, heavy and Special purpose vehicles to include:

o Cars and Pickups

o Fire crash/structural trucks, Fuel dispensing trucks

o snow removal vehicles and sweepers

o Dump trucks, Backhoes and front-end loaders.

· Assist with acceptance inspections with vehicles being dropped off for maintenance.

· Use shop diagnostic equipment to properly determine the extent of repairs necessary, including.

o OBD II Scan tools, Volt/Ohm Meters, Pressure gauge testers

· Identify parts and part numbers required for repairs.

· Adhere to shop operating standards, such as cleanliness in the shop and government facilities.

· Complete and submit work orders in a timely fashion.

· Assists in the local occupational safety and health program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area.

· Support staffing/training requirements for reservists, during periods of training.

Required Qualifications:

· High school diploma/GED required

· 3+ years of experience performing medium/heavy duty equipment services

· State drivers real I.D., with a clean driving record required. A or B CDL preferred

· 1 ASE or equivalent OEM certifications, such as those listed below

o EVT (Emergency Vehicle technician) certification

o Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A1-A9

o ASE T1-T7 Heavy Duty Trucks

o GM, Ford, Freightliner, Volvo, John Deer etc.

o Military / Government or Airport vehicle training

· Must be able to pass a federal background investigation and pre-employment drug screen

· Employees must become a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1459 and comply with the articles of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
