Job Title: Central Supply Tech II Profession: Central Supply Technician Specialty: Operating Room Duration: Permanent Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 24 hours per week Experience: Previous Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing experience preferred. License: High School Diploma or GED required. Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) required. Must-Have: Familiarity with medical technology preferred. Description: The Central Service Technician II is responsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in a quality and timely manner. Works independently with little supervision and serves as a resource to Central Processing customers. Understands and adheres to performance standards, policies, and behaviors. Demonstrates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position. Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and hospital policies and procedures. Attends staff meetings or equivalent to update knowledge related to current department issues. Completes annual department competency requirements and documents appropriately. Adheres to all policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical. Identifies and uses appropriate methods and solutions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment. Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment. Appropriately handles garbage, linen, and biohazardous material. Maintains safety standards in the work area. Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies, instruments, and equipment. Maintains the proper functioning of sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and instrument decontamination washers. Consistently uses recipes to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize, and label instruments. Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality. Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments. Selects appropriate sterilization methods and follows correct principles of sterilization. Documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological testing to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process. Retrieves, disburses, and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment to customers in a quality and timely manner. Knows, uses, maintains, and operates equipment specific to Central Processing, including sterilizers and disinfectors. Communicates supply issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Maintains a clean, orderly work area and completes assigned housekeeping duties. Serves as a resource to customers on all Central Processing functions. Tracks progress and compliance in regards to training, staff meetings, and in-service education. Distributes medical supplies and restocks supplies by rotating stock. Cleans and maintains the work area, including shelves, in an orderly fashion. Applies knowledge of current methods of infection control. Completes Continuing Education Credits (CECs) annually and submits supporting documentation to management. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
