Key Responsibilities Design, build, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Repair and maintain existing tooling to ensure optimal production efficiency. Operate various machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines, to fabricate components. Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine tool specifications. Perform precision measurements using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and CMMs to verify accuracy. Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems, implementing effective corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering and production teams on tool design improvements and new product development. Recommended Qualifications Completed a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship or possess 5+ years of equivalent experience in a precision manufacturing environment. Proficiency in operating and setting up conventional and CNC machine tools (milling, turning, grinding, EDM). Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and apply GD&T principles. Skilled in the use of a wide range of precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques. Strong knowledge of various tool steels, carbides, and heat treatment processes. Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing complex tooling. Bonus Qualifications Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam). Experience with TIG/MIG welding for tool repair and fabrication. Knowledge of advanced metrology equipment, such as CMMs or optical comparators. Experience in the design and fabrication of jigs and fixtures. Understanding of various heat treatment processes for tool steels.
