Locum Tenens Opportunity: Neurosurgeon

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Facility: Level II Trauma Center
Schedule: 7-8 consecutive days/nights of 24-hour call shifts
Practice Setting: Adult inpatient, trauma, and elective neurosurgery
️ Neurosurgeons on Staff: 4
EMR: EPIC

Patient Demographic:

  • Adults only

OR & Team Support:

  • Dedicated Neuro-Ortho surgery team

  • APP support for all cases

Typical Caseload:

  • Average 1 surgical case/day

Required Procedures & Skills:

  • Cranial Burr Holes

  • Intracranial Pressure Monitor insertion & management

  • Intracranial Hemorrhage management

  • Tumor Removal

  • Bleed Control (Braid Bleed Stoppage)

  • Trauma Repair

  • Shunt Insertion/Revision

  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery

  • Traumatic Brain Injury management

  • Neurocritical care management

  • Ventricular Taps, Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt management & reprogramming

  • Ventriculostomy and External Ventricular Drain management

  • Spine Surgery: Discectomy, Laminectomy, Spinal Fusion, Stabilization, Reconstruction

  • Lumbar Puncture & Lumbar Drain Placement

  • CSF Sampling from Shunts/Drains

  • Interpretation & management of ICP and CPP data

Submission Requirements:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (ABNS) Required

  • IA License or IMLC with Copy at Name Clear Required

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, APLS, NALS or ATLS Required

  • Experience with adult trauma neurosurgery cases Required

  • Comfortable with spinal/lumbar/thoracic instrumentation Required

  • Must be available to cover all assigned call dates No exceptions
