Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 02/10/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU Float Pool position requiring AZ or compact licensure, 2 years of experience, and ACLS/BLS certification. Responsibilities Work in a hospital acute care setting, floating across MedSurg, Telemetry, and PCU units as well as inpatient holds in the ED at two campuses Stepdown units include 14-room double occupancy at West campus and ICU/stepdown patients at East campus Patient populations include geriatric, orthopedic, post-MI, post-cardiac cath, and CABG post-op cases with strong cath lab program Nurse to patient ratios: 1:4 in PCU and 1:5-6 in MedSurg/Tele RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin Monitoring equipment includes telemetry, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow in PCU; nurses must be able to interpret telemetry strips Monitor techs available; nurse aids utilized in all settings Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a) with every other weekend required Scheduling is made by float pool scheduler and published 6 weeks in advance; flexibility required No call or standby required Floating is prioritized for travelers; notification of unit assignment is sent 2 hours prior to each shift Uses Cerner EMR RNs provide comprehensive care including medication administration, monitoring, and management of post-cardiac and post-surgical patients Must be comfortable managing complex patient populations and float regularly within units and between campuses Orientation includes a general hospital orientation day and 12-hour shifts in both West MedTele and West PCU units Holiday coverage follows permanent staff rotation policies Dress code is currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs per system guidelines in October Sterile technique test (Foley catheter and central line dressing) administered on first orientation day; two chances to pass required Travelers may not be currently or recently employed by affiliated organizations (CommonSpirit system rules) Requirements Active AZ or compact RN license at time of consideration Current certifications in ACLS and BLS Minimum 2 years of hospital nursing experience with at least 1 year in a PCU setting Proficiency in managing multiple titratable drips and reading/interpreting telemetry strips Ability to pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam with at least 80% prior to contract signing; failure disqualifies candidate for 6 months Must live at least 50 miles from facility Cannot have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in the past year Copy of driver’s license required Two professional references: one supervisor within last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-633707.
