Position Summary

An Admissions RN is a registered nurse whose primary responsibility is to accept referrals from a variety of resources via phone and fax. Additional duties include co-signing referrals entered by LVN's and non-clinical intake staff, and coordinating initial hospice assessments with the clinical team.

Position Specific Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes daily referrals to ensure timely patient admission.
  • Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Checks and follows up on referrals daily.
  • Enters referral information, including medical and insurance details, into the EMR.
  • Verifies and obtains physician orders and documents CTI information in the EMR.
  • Ascertain insurance contract status with St. Joseph Hospice Services.
  • Interfaces with the Insurance Verification/Billing Specialist as needed.
  • Communicates with the Patient Care Supervisor and Coordinator to coordinate services.
  • Keeps Pharmacy and PBM informed of admissions and faxes necessary documents.
  • Applies Medicare and State hospice regulations when accepting a referral to stay compliant.
  • Co-signs referrals for LVNs and non-clinical staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Required: Education sufficient to obtain RN licensure.
  • Required: 1 year of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Preferred: 1 year of hospice experience.
Skills
  • Mathematical skills ability to apply basic arithmetic and percentages.
  • Language skills read, analyze, and interpret business and technical documents; write reports and correspondence; communicate effectively in English.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi?tasking abilities.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of hospice compliance, payer coverage, and referral processes.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Required within 30 days: National Provider BLS American Heart Association.
  • Required upon hire: California Registered Nurse License.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity; the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; and visual acuity for close and distance tasks. Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases is expected. Use of standard medical equipment is essential. Adaptations can be made to accommodate disabilities.

Compensation Range

$55.31 $89.27 per hour. Additional compensation may be available for shift differentials, standby/on?call, overtime, premiums, or bonuses.
