Application Engineer

We are seeking an Application Engineer to join our Public Safety ITS team. The ideal candidate will have experience in building high-quality .NET applications, working with relational databases, and collaborating with cross?functional teams. You'll be responsible for developing scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications, while continuing to improve your skills and growing development within our organization.

Experience with Windows Services. Experience with SharePoint and MS Power Platform development is a plus.

Due to the nature of our division, the candidate is required to participate in an after hours on?call IT support rotation providing basic desktop support to our Public Safety users. This is not a teleworking position and will require regular in?office attendance with the opportunity for future hybrid days.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Identifies user and public business needs as they pertain to information technology systems; collects information from users; identifies alternative business solutions; develops programs and applications to address needs; defines input and output system requirements; prepares graphic and narrative representations of solutions; determines hardware/software requirements; performs cost?benefit, feasibility, and impact analysis; prepares testing plans and prepares program specifications.

Designs, develops, modifies, implements and maintains systems, software and infrastructure; writes code for new applications; ensures compliance with department design and coding standards; writes and modifies software using a variety of programming languages; designs user friendly interfaces and logical screen flow.

Supports complex applications with multiple web, application and database servers and complex data and communications networks; experience in SQL, SQL development, database reporting tools and developing database queries; knowledge of source control concepts and change management procedures.

Maintains an awareness of new applications, technologies, technical manuals and websites to increase knowledge of technical and business operations and attends conferences, workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Management Information Systems or related field, supplemented by four years experience in applications analysis, development, configuration, and support; experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques; experience in developing training and technical documentation for end users; additional years of experience in programming and application support functions may substitute for a portion of the required education; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

• Experience developing and maintaining web applications web apps using ASP.NET MVC framework.
• Experience using Microsoft's App Services platform to create, deploy, and manage Azure applications and services.
  

Possession of IT Infrastructure Library certification is preferred.

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
