Our Identity Team plays a critical role in securing access to our members, and we're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the way. As a Principal Software Engineer on the Identity Team, you will lead backend development efforts for authentication and authorization platforms that support HealthEquity's Classic and V5 portals, as well as our mobile applications. You'll drive innovation in secure access technologies and help shape the future of identity at HealthEquity.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable, secure identity services for authentication and authorization.
- Drive initiatives around passwordless authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), passkeys, and secure access to healthcare services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and maintain robust identity platforms that support application and microservices security.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability across backend systems.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to architectural decisions that align with long-term security and scalability goals.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5+ years focused on identity and access management.
- Proven background in building and maintaining secure identity platforms.
- Strong skills in Microsoft technologies (.NET, C#) and proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and microservices architecture.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).
- Expertise in modern identity standards and protocols (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, WebAuthn/Passkeys, SAML).
- Familiarity with automated testing, continuous delivery, and reactive systems.
- Knowledge of cloud-native application design and SaaS operations.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare) is a plus.
- Certified in identity or security standards.
- Strong understanding of application security and middleware.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Passion for authentication, authorization, and user experience in identity systems.
Salary Range $137,500.00 To $227,000.00 / year
