Primary Purpose Of Position

The position resides in the Shop Department and is responsible for performing general mechanical maintenance on power?plant equipment. The Shop team supports continuous improvement through training, reinforcing standards, reporting, and mitigating unsafe conditions using the corrective action program. This position may require approximately 20% travel.

Position Scope

Position reports to the CGS Maintenance Foreman. The incumbent must communicate across all levels of the organization, possess knowledge of plant equipment functions, safety rules, rigging, construction and maintenance practices, and demonstrate the ability to analyze complex mechanical problems and make repairs. Key focus areas include safety consciousness, team success, technical knowledge, work standards and communication.

Primary Duties And Accountabilities

• Perform maintenance and repair work on plant equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, pipe systems, valves and limit torque operators (disassembly, part repair or replacement, assembly) using sound technical decisions.
• Adhere to established maintenance standards and practices.
• Perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently at the direction of Maintenance Management.
• Demonstrate strong maintenance skill on pumps, valves and BOP equipment using correct tools, equipment such as rigging, fork trucks and cranes.
• Execute work package assignments and interpret power plant prints.
• Work on cross?functional teams on major projects.
• Provide technical support to plant operations, maintenance staff and engineering to the level of training received.
• Perform verification checks on maintenance items covered in maintenance technician training.
• This role can be filled at Associate, Mid?level or Senior level. Please see minimum qualifications list below for each level.
  

Minimum Qualifications Level I

• Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics OR HS Diploma with at least 12 months of trade or technical experience in Power Plant Technology or relevant field experience OR Relevant Vocational Technical High School diploma with 6 months of shop experience at Fort Smallwood.
• Successfully complete training requirements and time?in?job requirements, including passing the MASS test.
• Valid drivers license and access to an insured vehicle.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a power plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances.
• Exposed to heat with reduced stay times, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise areas, confined and cramped work areas, and a nuclear power plant environment including radiation dose exposure.
• Works at high elevations on ladders and scaffolds.
• Works shift work or weekends as required.
• Perform tasks inside radiological controlled areas.
• Maintains nuclear qualifications IAW CGS specific training program.
• Maintain radiation protection qualification and training, including respirator qualifications as needed.
• Ability to obtain unescorted nuclear plant access.
• Basic computer skills.

• Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology or Electronics with at least 3 years of trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology OR 5 years experience in Maintenance Tech II or equivalent years of experience with trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology or relevant field experience.
• Successfully complete training requirements and time?in?job requirements, including passing the MASS test.
• Valid drivers license and access to an insured vehicle.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a power plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances.
• Exposed to heat with reduced stay times, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise areas, confined and cramped work areas, and a nuclear power plant environment including radiation dose exposure.
