Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for dispensing medications and providing drug information following established standards and practices to ensure proper and safe medication use.

Brief Description

The role involves preparing and compounding medications, managing pharmacy documentation, and offering drug-related guidance to hospital staff and the public.

Job Functions
  • Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals.
  • Prepares IV solutions.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory.
  • Provides information to facility staff on drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Writes guidelines for drug use within the hospital and implements hospital regulations.
  • Ensures medicines are stored appropriately and securely.
  • Provides guidance to pharmacy staff.
  • Answers questions about medicines from within the hospital, other hospitals, and the general public.
  • May be required to float to other locations (Waconia, Chaska, Arlington, Le Sueur).
  • Requires occasional coverage of emergency department pharmacist shifts on weekdays and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Night Pharmacist Duties
  • Delivers medications to nursing stations.
  • Performs the Intelliguard tray refill for the OR's.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education / Work Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacist experience in a hospital setting.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions.
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to work carefully, methodically, and accurately.
  • Knowledge of IV admixture, unit doses, computer operation, oncology, nutritional support, and kinetic dosing.
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence to complete job functions.
License / Certification
  • Valid Minnesota Pharmacist licensure.
