Position: Part-Time Phlebotomist
Department: Phlebotomy Services
Location: UPMC Passavant - Cranberry
Shifts: 20 hours per week. Monday - Friday 9:30AM - 6PM with rotating Saturdays 7AM - 3PM. No Sundays or holidays required
Responsibilities:Perform venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures following proper patient identification protocols.
Instruct patients on collection procedures for non-blood specimens and collect samples as required.
May also perform arterial puncture following strict collection and post collection guidelines.
Transport specimens safely from on-site and off-site collection areas to the appropriate lab section.
Ensure compliance with laboratory and hospital policies, including quality assurance and infection control measures.
Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers and respond to telephone inquiries promptly.
Perform clerical duties such as data entry, test ordering, specimen labeling, and verifying patient information.
Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
Communicate unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists.
Receive, label, and prepare specimens for analysis while maintaining accuracy and integrity.
Order, organize, and maintain inventory of supplies; check expiration dates and stock patient care areas.
Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection and address concerns with professionalism and empathy.
*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances:Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
