Job Description

We are excited to invite motivated individuals to apply for the full-time position of Traffic Control Technician with our growing team. This role involves essential flagging duties that adhere to strict safety regulations and procedures. You will be responsible for setting up and utilizing signs and equipment to effectively direct traffic around work zones. We are looking for candidates with a positive attitude and a strong team spirit. You will work on a variety of projects, from small residential plans to large commercial and DOT projects.

Shift Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Valid certification in accordance with the VDOT Flagger Certification Program or an equivalent approved program
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record, eligible for company vehicle insurance
  • Fluency in English
  • Willingness to travel outside of the Ashland/Williamsburg area, with hotel costs covered and weekly Per Diem

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations on work sites
  • Set up signage, barricades, and other warning devices
  • Operate company vehicles safely
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inspections
  • Ensure a safe environment for clients and the public
  • Respond to emergencies and report any incidents promptly
  • Assist in delivering materials to work sites as needed
  • Participate in additional projects that support organizational goals

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of traffic control or highway construction is advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude
  • Ability to thrive under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Foster effective communication with colleagues and clients
  • Ability to analyze issues, gather information, and draw conclusions

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, such as loading and unloading safety equipment. You may need to lift or move up to 50 pounds and operate certain machinery. Vision abilities required include close vision and focus adjustments. PPE requirements may include dust masks, safety glasses, hard hats, high-visibility safety gear, and steel-toed footwear.
