The Developmental Support Assistant plays a vital role in providing nurturing and therapeutic assistance to infants and toddlers under the guidance of the Early Intervention (EI) Group Coordinator. This position follows the curriculum framework, organizes group activities, and ensures the proper maintenance of resources and materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with group leaders to facilitate Early Intervention group services effectively.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive environment for the children.
  • Support group leaders by working with children according to their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and daily curriculum.
  • Stay updated on children’s IFSP goals and cooperate with coordinators and staff to implement relevant strategies in group settings.
  • Engage with children using developmentally appropriate practices, focusing on behavior management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Interact warmly with children and families, providing orientation to new families and sharing important updates when necessary.
  • Be available for home or center visits as requested.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of group activities, including snacks and providing care for children as required.
  • Foster ongoing communication regarding children with caregivers, group leaders, service coordinators, and other EI providers.
  • Aid in planning and designing classroom activities that encourage sensory exploration, creativity, and motor development.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the group space and materials, handling tasks such as dishwashing and sanitization.
  • Prepare and clean up after group sessions, organizing toys and materials efficiently.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of supplies and collaborate with the Group Coordinator on supply needs.
  • Assist in preparing and updating classroom materials and bulletin boards.
  • Manage classroom documentation such as attendance, IFSP paperwork, and ensure confidentiality is upheld.
  • Update group records as new children join or leave the group.
  • Keep important information like emergency contacts and allergies clearly posted for all enrolled children.
  • Help with recording group attendance as required.
  • Exhibit knowledge of child development and appropriate play techniques with infants and toddlers.
  • Apply appropriate limit-setting techniques as demonstrated by the group leaders.
  • Follow instructions and work independently when needed.
  • Act promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Support administrative tasks for the Office Team, including filing and copying as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school equivalency with at least three years of experience in Early Intervention or a similar program, along with 30 hours of relevant training or coursework.
  • Experience working directly with infants and toddlers.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and communication skills effectively with a professional group.
  • Physical capacity to lift 40 pounds and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is mandatory.
  • Exhibit professional boundaries, respect confidentiality, and be adaptable to diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Show problem-solving skills and capability to implement effective solutions.

Compensation: $17-21 Hourly Wage
