ADMINISTRATOR - DIRECTOR, SAFETY & SECURITY

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 10 years of experience in public safety, military, private security or school discipline.
  2. Experience in law enforcement or related field preferred.
  3. Experience in educational environment preferred.
  4. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Activities and Support Services

JOB GOAL: The Director of Safety and Security performs administrative tasks in developing, implementing, and managing programs designed to effectively address security and the school safety needs of North Kansas City Schools. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive school safety program, which includes working with local law enforcement agencies and district personnel to monitor and coordinate the overall safety and security program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates a comprehensive school safety and security program.
  2. Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies to monitor the daily operation of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program and other law enforcement issues on the school campuses. ?
  3. Serves as the liaison with private security companies hired or consulted by the school district to perform services, consulting, or placing security employees at district sites or district events at off-district sites.
  4. Coordinates and evaluates the purchase of safety and security equipment, supplies and services. ?
  5. Provides training and assistance to administrators and other personnel in matters of safety and security. ?
  6. Advises and assists administrators in matters involving criminal activities on school campuses. ?
  7. Participates in the development and maintenance of a District Level Crisis Response Plan. ?
  8. Advises and assists in the development of crisis management/emergency response plans as part of each school's safety plan. ?
  9. Directs the annual audit of school facilities and administrative offices to determine safety and security issues.
  10. Coordinates with site-based administrators, Maintenance, Facilities Managers, IT, SRO/SRDs, and Student Services to address and correct safety/security issues on school campuses.
  11. Assists in the development and implementation of security plans for special events involving the school facilities within the jurisdiction of North Kansas City Schools.
  12. Assists schools with planning and coordination of traffic patterns for daily operations and special events.
  13. Serves as a liaison with other agencies such as local, county and state public safety agencies and others to provide resources and information related to school safety and security.
  14. Assists in the District's effort to collect and compile the required annual school crime report to the State of Missouri Department of Education.
  15. Coordinates and leads the District Safety Committee.
  16. Communicates as close to real time as possible with the appropriate district administrators on matters involving school/public safety or matters that may impact school operations.
  17. Recognizes and communicates matters that may receive media attention.
  18. Communicates with other school departments on matters related to school safety and security.?
  19. Participates in trainings offered by MSBA to obtain and maintain MSBA certifications.
  20. Works directly with local law enforcement agencies during critical incident situations and other safety and security issues that impact school.
  21. Implements safety and security training programs for district staff and administrators.
  22. Carry a firearm on district property legally as prescribed by local, state, federal law and board policy.
  23. Attends PTA, school board, and various other community meetings as requested.
  24. Ensures alarms are functioning properly and monitors fire and burglary alarms at each site.
  25. Represents North Kansas City Schools in matters of security/school safety through state and national organizations.
  26. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  27. Accepts from the superintendent such responsibilities as the superintendent chooses to delegate and assumes full responsibility for discharging them.
  28. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  29. Completes additional duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment. Some outdoor work is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
