Data-Focused Software Engineer

The Leidos Digital Modernization Group is excited to invite applications for a Software Engineer with a strong data foundation to strengthen the Global Management Systems (GMS) Team. This role supports critical operations within the Defense Information System Network (DISN) under the Global Solutions Management - Operations II (GSM-O II) contract, which aligns with the mission of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

This position requires candidates to be onsite a minimum of two days per week, and interested applicants must be able to commute to Scott AFB IL or Fort Meade MD. A minimum Secret clearance is required upon the start of employment, and the successful candidate must obtain Security + certification within 14 days following their start date.

The selected developer will design and create software for various GMS Innovations projects, focusing on integrating data sources with Confluent (Kafka) and Elastic platforms. You will be responsible for developing robust integration solutions, following the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, and adhering to data governance practices. This role demands experience in the full software lifecycle while harnessing innovative AI technologies within a multi-site, multi-cluster cloud environment.

As a member of the GMS team, you will collaborate in a dynamic Agile environment to architect and build integrated solutions that enhance the foundational Integrated Data Architecture platform (Confluent and ELK platform), working in conjunction with a distributed team across various locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop Kafka system integrations between Elasticsearch/Logstash and other systems.
• Manage, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Kafka and Elastic cluster environments.
• Create automated CI/CD build and deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, and Bitbucket.
• Implement automated testing strategies using tools such as Ansible, Selenium, JMeter, and JUnit.
• Engage with an Agile team, participate in daily scrums, and demonstrate progress on software developments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and system-related issues.
• Independently monitor and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve successful project outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field with 4+ years of applicable experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, and SQL; familiarity with JavaScript and HTML.
• Experience with Git/Bitbucket and UNIX command line development.
• In-depth understanding of software engineering principles and the complete software development lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD processes, containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker), and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with data integration platforms such as Kafka, Elastic, Spark, and NiFi.
• Experience with Kafka connectors and basic knowledge of ksqlDB/Kafka Streams.
• Knowledge of Agile practices and tools.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with remote teams.
• Ability to obtain an interim Secret DoD Security Clearance prior to start date.
• Willingness to secure Security+ (or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II) certification within 14 days of starting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications in Python, JavaScript, Java, and SQL.
• Knowledge of Kibana visualizations, including leveraging machine learning capabilities and React.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and predictive analytics.
• Experience using Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence) and collaborating with dispersed teams.
• Experience in AWS cloud environments, particularly GovCloud, with knowledge in security policy configurations.
• Familiarity with DoD environments (DISA experience is beneficial) and adherence to DoD security standards.
• Understanding of automated testing frameworks and pipelines (e.g., Ansible, Selenium, JMeter, JUnit).
