Automotive Technician

This is the journey person level. Incumbents assemble, install, repair, or remove special enforcement and emergency equipment, and other related work. Incumbent will diagnose, repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems etc. for various power and electric rolling equipment such as cars, trucks, golf carts, trams, landscape and farm equipment and generators; perform turn ups, brake jobs and other preventative maintenance on cars, trucks, trams, and other powered rolling equipment; replace common parts and make adjustments; repair mowers, tractors, and other small engines. Incumbent will respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and services on and off grounds; direct and train other staff in proper repair methods, the safety operation of equipment used on a daily basis, setup daily jobs and oversee the safety operation of the Fleet Services Department. Keep daily records of equipment checked out by other units and assure operators have been trained on specific pieces of equipment; complete monthly mileage reports. Incumbent will maintain appropriate service and repair records; research, purchase and inventory equipment parts, chemicals, supplies and hazardous material used in the Fleet Services; maintain and schedule daily inspections on above ground fuel tanks and propane tanks and keep records of inspection and fuel levels; prepare vehicles for smog and set up off ground smog inspections, and schedule vehicles for factory recalls with dealers and maintain records of all inspections and status of factory recall repairs.
