The Commercial Quotes Lead plays a critical leadership role within George T. Sanders Company (GTS) by managing and developing the team responsible for commercial plumbing project quotations. This position ensures that GTS delivers accurate, timely, and competitive quotes that support our branches, outside sales teams, and valued contractor partners across Colorado and Wyoming.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a collaborative, customer-first environment and upholds GTS's reputation for service excellence, accuracy, and integrity. This role supports profitable growth while strengthening long-term customer, vendor, and internal relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor the Commercial Quotes Team with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Provide coaching, product training, and development pathways to build strong quoting expertise within the department.
  • Manage employee performance, provide feedback, and maintain clear expectations.
  • Schedule and coordinate AD educational opportunities (e.g., lunch & learns, product knowledge trainings) for team members.
  • Maintain updated price books, net sheets, and list price multipliers to support team competency and accuracy.
  • Foster a culture aligned with GTS core values: integrity, service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Quote Management & Project Oversight
  • Manage and organize all incoming quote requests to ensure efficient workflow and timely response.
  • Download and organize all pertinent job information-including plans, specs, fixture schedules-into structured digital job folders.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of commercial plumbing project quotes, from plan review to final submission.
  • Ensure quotes are accurate, well-organized, competitive, and aligned with GTS pricing strategies.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, and vendor quotes to validate scope and completeness.
  • Maintain and update all quoting worksheets and ensure pricing data is current.
  • Request quote feedback from the sales team to refine accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Support branches and sales teams by offering technical insights, material alternatives, and value-engineering options.
Branch & Sales Collaboration
  • Serve as a central support resource to branch managers, inside sales teams, and outside sales representatives.
  • Communicate proactively about upcoming bids, deadlines, revisions, and follow-up expectations.
  • Maintain strong customer and outside sales relationships to reinforce GTS's reputation for service excellence.
  • Uphold GTS's high standards for customer service with timely responses and transparent communication.
Vendor Partnerships & Pricing Strategy
  • Send plans, specs, and material lists to vendors to request project pricing.
  • Build strong relationships with vendor representatives to secure competitive pricing and support.
  • Negotiate special pricing, freight considerations, and product substitutions where appropriate.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and collaborate closely to ensure timely and accurate pricing.
  • Work with Purchasing to align quotes with inventory strategies and approved vendor programs.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Organize and maintain the digital bid board to track active, upcoming, and completed bids.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine quoting workflows, documentation standards, and communication channels.
  • Leverage GTS technology platforms - internal quoting tools, and project tracking systems to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Standardize quoting templates, BOM formats, and internal handoff procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital job folders that support transparency and ease of retrieval.
Reporting & Accountability
  • Monitor and report on bid activity, win/loss trends, and pricing competitiveness.
  • Maintain the monthly quotes-to-orders report to track departmental performance and conversion.
  • Provide timely updates to management regarding high-value opportunities and team workload capacity.
  • Maintain compliance with company pricing policies and margin expectations.
Requirements

Qualifications

Required
  • 3-5+ years of experience in plumbing wholesale distribution, commercial estimating, or a related construction supply field.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, materials, codes, and manufacturer product lines.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittal requirements.
  • Leadership experience, including coaching or managing a team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across branches and departments.
  • High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Preferred
  • Experience in a multi-branch wholesale environment.
  • Familiarity with GTS product lines and key vendor partners.
  • Experience negotiating project pricing with manufacturers.
  • Background in hydronics, mechanical, or HVAC/R product categories.
