The Principal Electronics Reliability Materials Engineer's primary duties are to apply analytical and engineering skills to ensure reliability and robustness targets are met in our disruptive designs that push the electronics to their limits. The Principal Electronics Reliability Materials Engineer will be a member of REDD Team (Reliable ElectronicsDisruptive Designs), which supports product development teams. This position will report to the Director of Electronics Reliability. This position also requires excellent cross-functional communication skills and the ability to identify, assess, analyze, and present information to help launch new and exciting solutions that meet user needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Function as a subject matter expert (SME) in electronic component and electronics material failure analyses.

  • Analyze electronic component failures to identify failure mechanisms and participate in developing tests to replicate them.

  • Identify, assess, and analyze electronics for reliability risks from a materials perspective during development.

  • Provide guidance and consulting on mitigating corrosion in in electronics.

  • Mentor engineers on new ways to improve electronics reliability and understand electronic component/materials failure mechanisms.

  • Develop new analysis methods and test processes for electronic components and electronic materials.

  • Participate in creating training materials and building a knowledge warehouse for electronics reliability failure mechanisms, failure modes, and potential root causes.

  • Propose and lead or participate in REDD Strategic Initiatives.

  • Create and review REDD Lab failure analysis reports for technical accuracy.

  • Assist in developing Participate in the development of multi-year roadmaps and a vision for electronics component and electronic materials failure analysis in REDD Lab, and potential global expansion of REDD Lab and its potential global expansion.

  • Create training material and teach classes to engineers on SME topics.

  • Identify opportunities for applying best practices and document successes.

Job Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience with electronics components and electronics materials failure analysis.

  • 8+ years of experience with the application of laboratory equipment (X-ray, C-SAM, FT-IR, microscope, sectioning, etc.) for failure mechanism identification in electronics.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Materials Engineering, or educational equivalent.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time is required (travel includes Domestic and International)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in materials engineering.

  • Advanced degree in Materials Engineering.

  • Previous experience with power electronics/motor drive-based products.

  • Previous experience with corrosion in electronics.

  • Previous experience with teaching topics related to electronics materials, corrosion, or failure mechanisms.

  • Previous experience in a lab that supports product development.
