IT Lab Support Analyst

Our client is currently seeking a qualified IT Lab Support Analyst to join their team onsite in Kalamazoo, MI and provide end-user support. This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong acumen in computer hardware and a variety of laboratory software packages to join the Laboratory Instrument Support Team as a Lab side Computing Analyst. In a highly complex R&D environment, this role would support the work of the scientists and other technical staff by providing computer hardware and software support. The hardware and software needs are ever-evolving in biopharmaceutical R&D, which necessitates the application of dedicated computing resources focused on lab-based computers and software. The ideal candidate would possess a strong understanding of desktop computer infrastructure, and the ability to adapt the infrastructure based on both the corporate standards and the situational needs of each instrument/software application. This role would also require diverse experience in instrument control software, which can be applied situationally to learn and support new applications. This role will work with minimum supervision on multiple equipment support tasks including but not limited to: building/modifying desktop computers to support the needs of the scientists and their lab instruments, working with and learning a wide range of software packages that support instrument control, data acquisition, data processing and data archival, and working with vendors on-site and remotely to support instrument installation and troubleshooting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Works independently and within a cross functional highly collaborative team environment to provide advanced support and troubleshooting on a wide range of laboratory instrument-associated software packages
• Troubleshoots hardware and software issues, installs and configures new equipment, instrument-related software applications and version updates while ensuring both vendor and company-internal computer operating standards are met
• Creates / updates problem tracking records
• Monitors the installation of operating system and application security patches
• Ensures security configurations are met and properly maintained
• Configures and monitors backup and recovery software for all complex and critical systems
• Builds various testing and monitoring utilities using Powershell and command line scripting
• Sustains strong relationships with scientists and instrument support engineers to track, understand and resolve their technical issues
• Drives ownership of user issues: monitors progress and keeps user informed of resolution through final solution
• Assists scientific personnel with the evaluation and implementation of new / adjacent laboratory technologies
• Adheres to all compliance requirements and provides technical input for department SOP development
• Adheres to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and standard operating procedures related to working in laboratory settings and the care and maintenance of computing and networking hardware

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science or a bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics or related discipline with an associated educational or employment-based skillset in computer hardware and software
• Minimum 3 to 5+ years or equivalent of advanced IT support work experience in a highly complex R&D or manufacturing environment
• Experience in following standard PC build processes for new and/or restorative installations of PC systems using disk imaging software
• Able to navigate and make modifications to the Windows Registry
• Knows instrumentation hardware and communication standards (e.g. NI-488.2 and NI-DAQ)
• Has working knowledge of the principles and concepts of lab PC and peripheral hardware support
• Highly competent in TCP/IP wired and wireless network fundamentals
• Self-starter: Wants to seek out work and follow-through

Wage Range:
The rate for this position is between $26.25 - $38.50 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
