ABOUT THE OFFICE OF COMPLIANCE & ENFORCEMENT (OCE):

The Legal Services Corporation (LSC), established by Congress in 1974, is the nation's largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income individuals. We currently support 130 nonprofit legal aid organizations throughout the nation. LSC's mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans.

The Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) plays a critical role in upholding this mission. OCE ensures that grantees meet all requirements under the LSC Act, along with related regulations, guidelines, and grant assurances. In addition, OCE responds to public inquiries and investigates complaints, helping to maintain transparency, accountability, and trust in the delivery of legal services.

This position is based in Washington, DC, and will require working from an office in DC in accordance with LSC's hybrid work model. The successful candidate must live in the DC metropolitan area for the duration of the internship.

The internship is expected to run from mid-January through May 2026, with interns expected to work between 20 to 30 hours per week on a part-time basis.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN & DO:

This internship offers a rich learning experience in compliance, legal process, and public service. You'll gain insight into how grant oversight supports civil legal services and help carry out essential work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Manage small projects from inception to completion;
  2. Working with complex excel spreadsheets and Smartsheets;
  3. Drafting simple letters in response to information requests;
  4. Draft memorandum based on review of relevant documents;
  5. Conduct internet-based research; and
  6. General administrative functions.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

The ideal applicant must be:
  • Dependable, curious, and mission-driven
  • Strong writers and communicators
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Bonus: experience with Adobe, survey tools, or process mapping.
