As a Manager of Protection Engineering and part of the CRAS/Automation team you will report directly to the Senior Manager of Protection Engineering and provide both strategic direction and day-to-day operational leadership to a team of currently 5 engineers. Protection Engineering is one of the most critical organizations in SCE due to its significant technical role in preserving the safety and reliability of the SCE grid. \u00a0Protection Engineering\u2019s vision is to be \u201cTechnical Experts, focused on Communication & Building Relationships, and Customer Service-Driven\u201d.\u00a0 As an\u00a0Engineering Manager, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone. Responsibilities
- Leads a select set of engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies, determine how the grid is planned, designed, operated, and maintained to operationalize company's strategy
- Develops and maintains a project portfolio management system to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and monitor performance
- Evaluates new technologies and methodologies to enhance project efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability, designing and implementing improvement projects and new systems to support site initiatives and improve operational efficiency
- Establishes and maintains relationships with external partners, vendors, and contractors to support project delivery and innovation
- Coaches engineering teams on professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge
- Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy, technology and safety program to ensure company advancement toward future vision and the well-being of employees and contractors involved in engineering projects
- Manages the engineering team that provides emergent and routine trouble-shooting support for plant technical needs. Manages various contract engineers and works with those individuals to ensure consistency and quality in design, delivery milestone dates, and cost
- Leads the design and implementation of new equipment and cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability, and throughput
- Develops goals for engineering team and assigns projects/roles to employees that translate Sr. Manager levels goals into actionable tasks
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
Preferred Qualifications
\u00a0
- Experience with Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) and power system protection.
- Bachelor\u2019s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Project Management skills or certification
- Experience with SCE substation design standards.
- Experience with automation equipment, systems, and applications
- Experience implementing process improvements to enhance the quality and timeliness of engineering deliverables
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Experience with software tools (e.g. PowerBI, scripts, etc) to automate manual workflow processes
- Experience in the electric utility industry

- This position\u2019s work mode is\u00a0hybrid.\u00a0The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and\u00a0reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.\u00a0The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
