The Occupational & Environmental Health Department, Technical Operations Division is seeking to hire a mid-level Data Scientist.

Position Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Principal responsibilities to develop/modify new methods, approaches, or scientific knowledge to solve challenges.
  • Must apply knowledge of science/technology to analyze and resolve multifaceted issues/problems with minimal guidance and consult appropriately to develop objectives, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Possess a B.S. degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position or a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-01/GS-11 or equivalent grade level. Specialized experience is experience providing the capacity and skills for working independently, leading collaborative events, working in teams and using these approaches to find and solve complex problems.

  • A M.S. degree is desired, but not required, in data analytics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, business intelligence, epidemiology, statistics, computer science, or a related science or engineering field that emphasizes data processing, graphical data presentation, and programming.
  • Posses over 5 years of experience supporting Air Force or DoD medical, clinical, Public Health or Occupational and Environmental Health initiatives in both civilian and military settings.
  • Over 5 years of experience applying data processing and visual analytics techniques to clinical and OEH data sets using tools such as (Python, Pandas, Matplotlib, R, SQL, Tableau (Server, Desk Desktop, Prep Builder), and Power BI.
  • At least 3 years of experience in developing advanced data visualizations, performing data analysis, and executing ETL processes across cloud-based data warehouses and operational databases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrate experience with Software as a Service (SaaS) / Cloud-based platforms such as AWS Redshift (Dbvisualizer) or Databricks (Redash)
  • Able to manage projects to ensure all phases are completed expertly and in a timely manner.
