Description
Davis & Floyd is seeking a talented Transportation Engineer for our Charleston, SC office. We are looking for professionals with experience related to roadway design for public agencies including state departments of transportation and local governments and have extensive experience utilizing Microstation and Geopak software. This position requires an engineering background in the design of roadway projects with exposure to roadway drainage design, NEPA requirements, traffic control, and permitting for all types of roadway projects. Responsibilities include capability to lead the development of preliminary plans through final construction plans and specifications in accordance with DOT methodology with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential.
SCDOT experience is a plus, but D|F welcomes and encourages qualified applicants seeking to move to South Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of roadway design with little supervision
- Be well versed in the requirements of the D&F Project Delivery Manual (PDM)
- Prepare final roadway plans, specifications and cost estimates with efficiency and accuracy
- Assist in the organization of roadway engineers, CAD and other disciplines to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
- Assist junior engineers and CAD staff in preparing plan set documents per DOT standards
- Assist in quality review of roadway design calculations and drawings
- Assist in the preparation of meeting minutes and progress reports as required by the PDM.
- Apply sound engineering principals to the solution of routine technical problems
- Interface with clients and regulatory agencies by phone, in writing and in person to communicate and establish expectations
- Assist in preparation of presentation material and exhibits for client meetings and public information meetings
- Assist in the development of scope, schedules and budgets
- Develop project cost estimates
- Cooperative team member that will work well with others and work towards the unified goal of maintaining D&F as the preeminent engineering firm in South Carolina
- BS degree in civil engineering (MS degree a plus)
- Professional Engineer
- 4 to 8 plus years of experience in roadway design
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of roadway design requirements (SC experience a plus)
- Proficient in Geopak and Microstation (Open Roads a plus)
- Self-motivated with the ability to lead standard roadway projects with little guidance or oversite
