The West Section Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Inventory and Purchasing Team is a performance-driven group dedicated to building the skills, confidence, and expertise in purchasing and material support for Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) West Section O&M teams. In this role, you will purchase and provide supply support to achieve strategic and real-time objectives for one of the region's most complex wastewater treatment systems. This is more than a job-it's an opportunity to participate in a key-team role dedicated to protecting the environment, supporting public health, and ensuring reliable wastewater service for our community.

The King County WTD protects public health and the environment of the central Puget Sound region by collecting and treating wastewater, while recovering valuable resources that would otherwise be lost. We manage a vital infrastructure that contributes to the region's economic development and provide services to 18 cities, 15 local sewer districts, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and nearly two million residents across a 424-square-mile area in King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties. We enforce regulations to reduce harmful waste discharge and actively educate the public and businesses on water quality protection. Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Purchase goods, commodities and services for an industrial environment. Obtain price quotes, research vendor sources, and select vendors for purchase of standard parts, materials, supplies, tools and services. Conduct price comparisons to identify savings.
- Coordinate with central purchasing office. Prepare requests for purchasing authorization/limited procurement requisitions for minority/women business enterprises. Prepare change order requests. Assist with the preparation and review of bid specifications.
- Receive, analyze and order critical and non-standard requests. Process standard non-inventory items. Update current computerized and manual pricing information.
- Expedite operational orders/overdue/back orders.
- Solve problems with accounts payable invoicing errors. Resolve discrepancies. Review billings for accuracy.
- Manage inventory warehousing disbursements and document stock levels, process inventory purchases, perform cycle counts, perform physical inventory audits, ship and receive from warehouse, and perform material handling. Acknowledge receipt of goods and services. Maintain adequate supplies to meet user needs.
- Maintain computerized internal purchasing/inventory records and information system. Input and research inventory and direct purchases, disbursements, inventory adjustments and the history of parts use. Update computer master files.
- Recommend strategies for surplus, sale and salvage of obsolete inventory items; gather items.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications You Bring:
- Advanced knowledge and skill in purchasing goods, commodities, and services using WTD computer systems
- Advanced knowledge and skill in inventory management and warehouse operation
- Knowledge and skill in heavy duty and industrial parts
- Knowledge and skill in problem solving discrepancies with central purchasing agencies
- Knowledge and skill employing computerized systems to manage inventory
- Strong customer service skills with comprehensive follow-up when required

Working Conditions:
- Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd. Seattle, WA 98199
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. Upon successful completion of probation, a hybrid telework schedule may be arranged as approved by management.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division).
- Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and the ability to use ladders. Wastewater Treatment Plant
