Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting combined inpatient & outpatient opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our office located in Williamsburg, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting

  • Initiate and documentappropriate interventions

  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol

  • Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation

  • Assess patient and family needs and provides education

  • Promotes/provides staff education

  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting

  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice

  • Round on patients

Qualifications
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program

  • Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience ispreferred

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner experience is required

  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment

  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant

  • Current CPR certification required

  • Must be willing to travel to thevarious practice locations

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
