The Department of Public Works is currently looking for an Engineer II/III to join our team.

This position may be filled as either an Engineer II or Engineer III depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. The associated pay grades and ranges are as follows:

Engineer II (A14 $69,298.32 - $107,412.40)

Engineer III (A.17 $80,221.47 - $124,343.28)

The selected candidate will perform a variety of complex engineering duties, including:

  • Program management for the Stormwater Operations and Maintenance bureaus
  • Infrastructure maintenance
  • Repair assessment
  • Development and review of plans and specifications
  • Project coordination
  • Management support for the operation and maintenance of public facilities.
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and system monitoring
  • Provide comprehensive engineering and management support in all areas of engineering for the development of capital projects, such as those that appear in the City's six-year capital improvement program (CIP), and operating budget funds, to include cost estimates and related items for the City to budget for its capital improvement projects.
  • Manage contracts and work orders
  • Maintain program and project records and prepare various reports on schedules and budgets.
  • Provide professional responses to citizen inquiries.

Minimum Requirements:

Engineer II Minimums: Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Engineer III Minimums: Requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Attachments Required:

Preferences:
• Experience in stormwater drainage design and construction.
• Experience with field work and activities related to pump stations, flood control structures, or similar facilities.
• Experience utilizing technology or software to track tasks and assets, or system monitoring (SCADA)
• Experience supervising
• Municipal government engineering project management experience.
• Municipal contract and work order experience.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting requirements for construction in a coastal plain area.
• Virginia Department of Environmental Quality certifications: Erosion and Sediment Control and Storm Water Management
