Report To:

Director and Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds

Job Goal:

To perform general and preventive maintenance services and related repairs to district buildings, structures, machinery and equipment necessary to maintain the physical school plant and grounds in excellent operating condition.

Qualifications:

  1. Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
  2. Required criminal history background check, drug screening and eligibility to work in the United States.
  3. Sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to perform required tasks.
  4. Must be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, as necessary.
  5. Knowledge of methods, procedures, materials and equipment used in building maintenance work.
  6. Five years of experience as a custodian, maintenance worker or in the building trades.
  7. Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, and understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  8. Possess a valid NJ Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Performs general maintenance duties which may be assigned in one or more of the following areas: Carpentry; Driving; Electrical; Grounds keeping; HVAC; Locksmith; Masonry; Painting; Plumbing; Inventory Control.
  2. Responsible for daily operations, maintenance and repair including daily logs, preventive maintenance tasks and reporting requirements.
  3. Ensures maintenance requests and work orders are completed satisfactorily
  4. Performs all maintenance and repair work in a safe, clean and efficient manner.
  5. Operates all motorized vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  6. Drives vehicles to and from job sites.
  7. Ensures that appropriate supplies, equipment and tools are available at work sites to complete assignments.
  8. Completes work correctly and in a timely manner and in compliance with departmental performance standards and applicable building codes.
  9. Knowledge in all environmental issues, concerns and codes.
  10. Assists in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of maintenance supplies, tools and equipment.
  11. Works cooperatively with other maintenance workers and provides direction and assistance to maintenance helpers.
  12. Reports damaged or deficient building systems in need of replacement or repairs to the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds.
  13. Utilizes good human relation skills when dealing with colleagues, students, supervisors and the public.
  14. Performs duties as described in the Custodial and Maintenance Workers Handbook.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary:

$26.40 per hour
