St. Francis Center (SFC), a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in June 1983. SFC is a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area. Our programs and services are tailored toward adult women and men, and focus on daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, and outreach. At SFC, "guests" have the opportunity to work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, which is often the first step toward transformation and ultimately self-sufficiency.
We are currently looking for a Staff Accountant. This is a Full-Time, non-exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below.
Position Overview
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing daily financial operations, focusing on fund accounting, grants accounting, processing donor gifts and transactions, handling daily tasks like accounts payable, accounts receivable, fundraising data entry, and maintaining all accounting records and files. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The department also has a full-time Senior Accountant.
Primary Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
- Financial Operations and Transaction Processing: Manage A/P, A/R, and fundraising data entry.
- Grant Management: Track restricted funds and monitor grant spending.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit regulations and assist with reporting and audits as needed.
- Budgeting: Assist with annual budgets, track budget vs. actuals, and provide financial data for strategic planning.
- Internal Controls: Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and controls to prevent fraud and errors.
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear financial reports to program managers and leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or 3+ years experience in accounting and non-profit contract management.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles related to non-profit organizations
- Knowledge of federal government guidelines
- Experience with payroll systems
- Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Flexible and creative self-starter who can work both independently and within a team
- Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups including management and staff
- Prior experience in a non-profit environment is essential
- Commitment to the Agency's mission
$65,000-$70,000
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, Monday through Friday
