Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Director of Total Rewards on behalf of our client, a leading provider of standardized, multi-purpose railcars that support freight transportation across North America. This role plays a key part in driving the organization's people strategy, overseeing compensation, benefits, performance management, and employee relations. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strategic total rewards expertise and hands-on HR business partnership experience, serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of total rewards programs, including compensation, benefits, and performance management strategies.
  • Serve as an HR business partner, collaborating with leadership to align talent and reward programs with organizational goals.
  • Oversee employee relations, ensuring fair and consistent handling of workplace matters and compliance with employment laws.
  • Support the Board of Directors with reporting, data analysis, and executive-level HR presentations.
  • Manage and develop a team consisting of a Compensation Analyst, Benefits Analyst, and oversight of the Leave of Absence function.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership for benefit plan renewals, vendor relationships, and compliance initiatives.
  • Partner with finance and executive leadership to develop compensation frameworks that attract and retain top talent.
  • Contribute to ongoing HR initiatives that enhance company culture, engagement, and performance.
Requirements Include:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree or professional HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CEBS) preferred.
Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on benefits and total rewards.
  • Proven HR business partner experience required; experience supporting executives or Board-level functions preferred.
  • Union environment experience strongly preferred but not required.
  • Exposure to executive compensation strategy is a plus.
Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems, data reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and influence at all levels of the organization.
Certifications:
  • HR or benefits-related certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge:
  • In-depth understanding of employee benefits, compensation design, and performance management principles.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, compliance regulations, and labor relations practices.
