Overview
The Engineering Technician II provides intermediate-level technical support for the maintenance, testing, and operation of systems aboard the client's vessel and related range support equipment. This position assists senior engineers and technicians with the installation, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in compliance with the client's standards. The technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance, operates test equipment, and helps ensure systems remain safe, functional, and ready to support range missions.
This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.
Responsibilities

The Engineering Technician II assists in performing testing, maintenance, and repair of shipboard systems, supporting preventive and corrective maintenance programs that ensure vessel readiness and compliance with technical and safety standards.

Assist in installing, operating, testing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems aboard the vessel.

Perform inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMP).

Support the repair and adjustment of machinery, propulsion, and auxiliary systems under senior technician supervision.

Operate diagnostic and test equipment to identify performance deviations or faults.

Perform calibration checks and assist with setup and verification of instrumentation and sensors.

Document maintenance and repair actions in the Maintenance Summary Log (MSL) and submit supporting data for configuration control.

Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints for assigned systems and equipment.

Support at-sea operations by conducting pre-mission equipment readiness checks and post-mission inspections.

Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, hazardous energy controls, and confined-space safety standards.

Participate in shipboard safety drills, including firefighting, flooding, and abandon-ship exercises.

Coordinate with the On-Site Supervisor and senior technical staff to ensure maintenance and testing meet contract performance requirements.

Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
-
U.S. Coast Guard-Approved Basic Firefighting Course (or refresher within the past five years).
-
U.S. Coast Guard-Approved Able Bodied Seaman Course (may be completed prior to or within 45 days of task order award).

USCG Medical Certificate (CG-719K) with Food Handler Certification (Section II) per OPNAVINST 4061.4A.

Minimum 3-5 years of technical experience in shipboard, mechanical, or electrical maintenance environments.

Experience assisting in testing, repair, and operation of marine engineering systems.
-
Familiarity with diagnostic tools, test instruments, and calibration equipment.
-
Experience documenting work and maintaining technical records per Navy or ABS standards.
-
Ability to perform maintenance and testing in at-sea and in-port conditions.
-
Working knowledge of safety procedures, confined-space entry, and hazardous energy controls.
-
Working knowledge of marine mechanical and electrical systems, including propulsion, auxiliary, and support equipment.

Understanding of preventive maintenance principles and engineering documentation requirements.
-
Familiarity with NAVSEA, ABS, and USCG maintenance standards.

Knowledge of basic diagnostics, calibration, and measurement techniques.
-
Skilled in operating test instruments and performing equipment inspections.

Secret Clearance Required.

Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Competent in using hand and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks.

Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination with senior technicians and supervisors.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording maintenance data and reports.

Ability to work independently under general supervision and complete assigned tasks on schedule.

Ability to follow safety and environmental procedures in shipboard and confined-space environments.
-
Ability to adapt to changing mission requirements during both at-sea and in-port operations.

Ability to learn new technical systems and procedures under senior guidance.
Desired Qualifications:
-
Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Marine Systems, or a related field preferred.
-
Technical training in marine, mechanical, or electrical systems (e.g., Navy "A" school or equivalent) desirable.
