Major Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence
5)Promote evidence based practice by supporting staff to develop and utilize clinical guidelines, clinical pathways and clinical care policies and procedures that are based on current research.
6)Assist and support staff in developing and maintaining competency through orientation, internships, educational offerings, workshops, interdisciplinary professional meetings and self-directed learning. Maintain and analyze data to assure that staff development activities offered on the unit is of high quality and meet the needs of unit staff.
1)Ensure compliance with IDPH, DNV, EMSC, and other licensing/accrediting bodies and agencies.
2)Develop an annual plan to address quality improvement issues and projects.
3)Analyze and use benchmarkable data from internal and external sources to identify opportunities for improvement.
4)Support staff in participation of quality improvement activities through established systems to include but not limited to, the unit advisory councils, the nursing clinical quality committee and the performance improvement showcase.
7)Encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill by pursing formal education, certification, and other professional development opportunities and participation in professional organizations.
8)Foster a climate conducive to educational experiences for associates and students.
9)Promote an understanding and effective use of organizational, management, and nursing theories and research.
10)Contribute to the advancement of nursing theory, professional research and scholarly activities.
Financial
1)Identify areas for improved operational efficiency and involve staff in the development of new processes as appropriate.
2)Monitors unit LOS and drives action plans to achieve hospital & unit goals in collaboration with Nursing and Medical Director.
3)Ensure appropriate use of systems to capture charges and monitor trends.
4)Analyze monthly financial, operational and budget variance reports to assure that financial goals are achieved.
5)Initiate cost containment activities.
6)Participate in budget planning in collaboration with the department director and advocate for appropriate fiscal and human resources to accomplish the work and goals of the nursing department.
7)Monitor unit productivity levels and workforce design to ensure proper resource utilization and role delineation.
Physician Partnership
1)Collaborate with physicians and leaders of other departments and disciplines in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services to meet the needs of the unit population.
2)Work closely with physicians to develop and implement strategies to resolve physician complaints and concerns.
3)Partner with physicians in the development and enhancement of clinical programs.
4)Consistently round for outcomes with physicians.
5)Actively participate in physician meetings and committees as assigned.
Patient Engagement
4)Implement strategies to assure that all associates understand and support organizational standards of behavior, methods for communicating key messages and methods which serve to increase patient satisfaction.
5)Implement strategies to assure that associates understand when and how to implement service recovery and track service recovery issues to reduce their reoccurrence.
6)Achieve goals established by system and site regarding patient satisfaction.
1)Consistently review patient engagement data and trends
2)Review annual statistical data regarding the ethnicity of the population served on the unit. Develop and implement a plan of care which fosters a non-discriminatory climate in which care is delivered in a manner that is culturally sensitive and that is reflective to the cultural diversity that exists within the patient population.
3)Utilize an evidence based practice to improve care processes, structures, and measurement of client-centered outcomes and satisfaction.
7)Reward and recognize associates who are achieving results.
Associate Engagement
1)Manage the recruitment and selection of staff and maintain adequate staffing and appropriate work assignments.
2)Provide supervision of associates and accept accountability for services provided on the unit.
3)Develop and implement methods to recognize associate accomplishments. Identifies and mentors future leaders for the team, focusing on the quality care, business strategies and seven key results areas.
4)Consistently round on associates to role model positive behaviors, monitor morale, follow-up on organizational initiatives, reduce barriers between administration and staff and improve associate retention.
5)Follow established processes for receiving and resolving employee complaints and concerns.
6)Facilitate participation of staff in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision making and support staff involvement in shared governance activities at both the unit and house wide level.
7)Actively supports and encourages professional advancement of nursing staff to achieve goals of 50% or greater specialty certifications by RN staff, promotion of at least 2 Excel candidates annually and progress towards advanced degree completion by 1 or more of the RN staff on the unit.
8)Conduct timely performance reviews of all staff in which peer review is a mandatory component of the evaluation process for all associates.
9)Develop and mentor associates to create and support a professional practice environment based on principles of shared governance.
10)Model service and leadership consistent with nursing and organizational strategic goals.
Growth
1)Facilitate at least one hospital wide committee and actively participate in hospital committees, meetings and projects representing the department
2)Network with professionals at other health care facilities for clinical standards and innovations.
3)Prepare business plans and financial feasibility studies for special administrative assignments as requested.
4)Partner with local community organizations and municipalities.
5)Research literature, identify best practices, engage physicians in planning activities and attend specialty workshops in order to identify future trends in healthcare and opportunities for growth.
6)Maintains certification and active membership in one professional organization
7)Demonstrates current knowledge of federal and state legislation affecting area of specialty.
Licensure:
Nurse, Registered (RN)
Education/Experience Required:
• Graduation from approved School of Nursing • 5 years of experience in specialty area • Management development training with progressive supervisory assignments. • BS with MSN or BSN • Management experience 2-3 years • 4 hours annually in stroke care. • Board Certification within two years of hire. • Experience with Level 1 Trauma program
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Current RN license in the state of Illinois. • BLS • Member of Specialty Organization.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Resilience and flexibility to deal with a changing environment • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. • Travel within the Chicago land area. • Work hours are variable depending in current projects. • 24/7 Accountability; must be available to respond to the changing needs of their department. • This position includes being on call via pager and may require working unusual hours.
