The primary purpose of this position is to exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the Information Assurance (IA) Element.
Duties
Help
- Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Information Assurance (IA) Element to ensure installation IT and communications systems comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
- Serves as the Installation Information Assurance Manager, supporting two nuclear capable wings with distinct missions on the installation and the 8.5K square mile missile complex.
- Serves as the Communications Security (COMSEC) Manager for all cryptographic activities including managing the Cryptographic Access Program (CAP) for two nuclear capable wings.

- Only open to current Air Force civilian employees within the Global Strike Command.
- Incumbent is subject to a one (1) year supervisory probationary period if this requirement has not previously been completed.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military and commercial aircraft.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance as a condition of employment.
- Employee must be certified under the Nuclear Weapons Personnel Reliability Program IAW DoD Reg 5210.42. This is a PRP Controlled position: Code A - Critical Position for Nuclear Weapons Duty.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
- Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying a full range of IT security principles, methods, policies, products, and services to develop specifications that ensure compliance with security requirements at the LAN level; planning and coordinating the delivery of an IT security awareness training program for end users at all levels of the organization; utilizing a full range of IT security requirements for certification and accreditation, network operations/protocols, systems testing/evaluation, and performance management methods to implement and coordinate activities designed to protect/restore IT systems, services, and capabilities; and collaborating with subordinate supervisors to plan, organize, and direct the functions of an organization as well as ensure compliance with EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
- Knowledge of a full range of IT security principles, concepts, practices, products and services (including systems software, database software, immediate access storage technology), and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures.
- Knowledge of IT INFOSEC requirements for certification and accreditation, network operations and protocols, systems testing and evaluation, and performance management methods sufficient to plan and conduct security accreditation reviews for installed systems or networks and assess and advise on new or revised security measures and countermeasures based on the results of accreditation reviews.
- Knowledge of Local Area Network security requirements and techniques for protecting computer systems from viruses, data tampering, and unauthorized system entry.
- Knowledge of a broad range of telecommunications concepts and principles, operating modes, systems, media, equipment, equipment configuration, and related software systems, processes and procedures to assess and advise on vulnerability to attack from a variety of sources (e.g., espionage, disruption of services, destructive programs/applications) and procedures and methods for protection of systems and applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; including ability to develop and conduct training on information security.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of the organization through subordinate supervisors; including the ability to ensure compliance with agency safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
