POSITION SUMMARY

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing residents with the highest quality of respiratory care services in accordance with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and associated licensing entities, the Resident's Bill of Rights and the facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. The Respiratory Therapist Director is responsible for creating policies and procedures focused on respiratory services care, quality and process improvement related to quality of care, provides respiratory training and education as well as plans, organizes, assesses, treats, coordinates, evaluates and assists with all respiratory needs in the Ventilator Unit; developing respiratory care plans and conducting assessments in coordination with the RN Nurse Manager. All respiratory activities are performed to support residents in achieving and maintaining the highest practicable physical, mental and psycho-social well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs Comprehensive Respiratory Assessments and Care Planning: Conducts resident assessments, develops individualized respiratory care plans, participates in care conferences, and communicates needs and updates to caregivers and the Nurse Manager.
  • Delivers and Manages Respiratory Services: Responds to emergencies, provides manual and mechanical ventilation, administers CPAP/non-invasive treatments, and performs diagnostic procedures like spirometry, apnea testing, and arterial punctures.
  • Monitors and Maintains Respiratory Equipment: Operates, troubleshoots, and ensures safe use of respiratory equipment and medical gas systems; maintains inventory and coordinates with vendors for supplies and equipment needs.
  • Ensures Quality, Compliance, and Accurate Documentation: Follows HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols, documents care and orders accurately, ensures physician orders are followed, and reports any incidents promptly.
  • Provides Training, Policy Development, and Education: Develops respiratory-focused policies, delivers in-services and education, promotes disease management, and supports staff development in respiratory care practices.
  • Fosters a Positive and Compliant Work Environment: Promotes a supportive workplace culture, oversees the department's budget, upholds facility safety standards, and partners with interdisciplinary teams to enhance care quality and outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Minnesota License as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Current Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and emergency care • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Three years clinical experience administering direct care C
  • Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing facility or assisted living community
