Field Service Engineer

Power Solutions Group is searching for a Field Service Engineer who has electrical and/or mechanical experience, like to solve problems, and are customer oriented. We are committed to growing Engineers through on-the-job training and development. This role provides great variety of tasks and autonomy; working with a close-knit team who is dedicated to its customers.
The Field Service Engineer performs testing, troubleshooting, analysis and repair of low, medium, and high voltage electrical power distribution equipment and systems. Equipment includes protective relays, circuit breakers, switchgear, power transformers, generators and more. This position is based at our Middletown, CT engineering office, but much work will occur at customer sites.
- Lead on-site maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning efforts at customer facilities throughout the Northeast, primarily Southern New England
- Manage small to large engineering projects
- Perform protective relay testing at customer sites, both independently or as part of a team
- Interface with employees and customers in coordinating work at customer sites, executing the work, and resolving problems as they arise
- Utilize engineering skills and applicable codes and standards to implement electrical systems that are safe, dependable, and cost-effective
- Provide technical support and quality control for assigned projects
- Proficient in reading and accurately interpreting power system wiring diagrams, including DC elementary drawings
- Adhere to all electrical safety procedures
- Demonstrate a solid theoretical understanding of electricity and strong problem-solving skills
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers and peers
- Exhibit dependability, responsibility, good judgment, and organizational skills
- Provide strong customer service, time management, and follow-up skills
- Be available for flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and out-of-town work as needed
- Strong logistical and organizational, written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Working knowledge of electrical power distribution, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazards (NFPA70E)
- Ability to read electrical drawings; knowledge to interpret and analyze schematics a must. AutoCAD experience
- Knowledge of NETA acceptance and maintenance testing procedures
- Experience testing electro-mechanical and/or digital protective relays and a working knowledge of protective relaying applications
- Associates degree or relevant experience
- Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks
- NETA Level II or higher a plus
- Expected Travel is between 10% to 20%
