OVERVIEW
The senior accountant position is responsible for serving as a team leader in the Finance department and ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization. This position will be supervised by the Controller and Assistant controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for federal grant management reporting and compliance matters; ensure timely completion of all financial reports.
- Responsible for managing day to day accounting functions in the field offices, review general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries, perform monthly bank reconciliation duties.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and interact with Accountant and Field Office Directors; Responsible for budgetary control for grants and proper expense classification based on grantor guidelines.
- Perform grant-related functions, including budget vs actual analysis, perform grant closeout functions as require by grantors. Perform labor distribution changes.
- Review payments charged to grants for conformity to budget; charge those cost to grant monthly. Generate grant billings, reconcile, and monitor receivables.
- Conduct complex reconciliations, schedules, and reports. Use accounting knowledge to provide correcting entries to management for any reconciling items and works to minimize.
- Support the evaluation and recording of complex transactions in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of schedules including SEFA preparation for the Single Audit and the annual Form 990 process: and
- Strong knowledge of double entries and month-end close is essential.
- Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA designation and a minimum of three years' experience in non-profit and federal grant management are essential.
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, manage budgets, and oversee contracts.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills; ability to work as a team member and independently with a high-level of self-motivation and ability to meet goals and deadlines in fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with a high-level of self-motivation and as part of a team to meet goals and deadlines.
- Proficient in computer applications, such as MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel (VLOOKUP and Pivot table), and database programs; experience in Navision or other accounting software is required; and
- Effective communication including fluency in oral and written English and writing skills with impeccable attention to detail.
- Non-profit and NAVISION software experience preferred.
- Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
- Complete additional training as identified by supervisor (s) or Human Resources.
