Position Summary:
This position supports the Office of Financial Aid by supervising front-line professional staff and student employees, coordinating campus and community outreach activities, and ensuring a consistent, student-centered service experience. The Coordinator provides day-to-day oversight of service operations across in-person, phone, and virtual platforms, assisting students and families with financial aid inquiries and helping staff interpret and apply institutional, state, and federal policies accurately.
In addition to leading outreach and service coordination, this position provides support for the administration of UNC's student employment program and serves as the primary contact for the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) program supporting independent students and connected state programs. The Coordinator assists with tracking, communication, and coordination for these programs to ensure students receive timely guidance and equitable access to resources. Working collaboratively with the Director of Financial Aid and other office leaders, the Coordinator promotes quality, accuracy, and empathy in student interactions, supports staff training and development, and helps identify opportunities to improve communication and service processes. The position coordinates the team that represents the Office of Financial Aid at recruitment, orientation, and community events, and serves as a main contact for outreach requests and coordination of financial aid presentations and materials.
The Coordinator plays an essential role in fostering collaboration among Bear Central and campus community partners, ensuring that financial aid information is delivered in a clear, consistent, and supportive manner that contributes to student success and retention.
Job Duties:
Supervision and Service Coordination 30%
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of front-line professional staff and student employees in Bear Central who deliver financial aid services. Monitor and support in-person, phone, and virtual interactions to ensure accurate, timely, and empathetic communication with students and families. Provide training, scheduling, and feedback to promote consistent service quality. Collaborate with the Director of Financial Aid and other departmental leaders to monitor processing duties assigned to front-line staff, ensuring workflow consistency, timely completion of tasks, and alignment with office priorities and regulatory standards. Address escalated service concerns and assist in implementing improvements in operations and customer service delivery.
Outreach and Community Engagement 30%
Coordinate the team that represents the Office of Financial Aid at recruitment, orientation, and community events. Serve as the main contact for outreach requests and coordinate the preparation of presentations, printed and digital materials, and communication strategies. The Coordinator is expected to actively present at events, tailoring content and delivery to meet the needs of diverse audiences, including prospective students, current students, families, and community partners. Ensure that outreach efforts align with university messaging and effectively support student access and enrollment goals.
Support for Student Employment and SPOC programs 25%
Provide coordination and communication support for UNC's student employment program and the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) program supporting independent students and related state initiatives. Assist in the administration and compliance monitoring of funds for these programs, including tracking allocations, usage, and reporting outcomes to the Director of Financial Aid. Maintain accurate records, communicate with campus partners and external agencies, and ensure adherence to institutional, state, and federal guidelines. Coordinate outreach, documentation, and communication to ensure timely assistance and equitable access to resources.
Advising and Case Management 10%
Provide direct advising to students and families regarding financial aid applications, eligibility, and special circumstances. Respond to escalated or complex inquiries requiring individualized attention and maintain a supportive, solutions-focused approach that upholds compliance and service standards.
Collaboration and Process Support 5%
Collaborate with Financial Aid leadership and Bear Central partners to evaluate and improve service delivery processes. Contribute to the development of training materials and internal communications. Assist in collecting data, tracking performance metrics, and preparing service-related reports as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA Required plus three years of progressively responsible experience in Financial Aid administration.
