This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated Physician to play a pivotal role in our Care Management Department and enhance healthcare delivery through advisory services.
Roles and Responsibilities Overview
The Physician Advisor will support CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth hospital and affiliates by guiding the medical staff on physician practice patterns, documentation, resource utilization, medical necessity, compliance regulations, and payer relations. You'll be instrumental in promoting effective physician documentation to ensure proper patient Level of Care (LOC) and appropriate billing practices, aligning with Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG) assignments. Enjoy a workload with a Monday to Friday schedule and no on-call responsibilities
Location: On Site - Beaumont, TX
Reporting Relationship
The Physician Advisor will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer of CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth hospital.
Professional Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5 years of clinical experience
- Active medical license in the state of residence
- Board certification in a clinical specialty
- Certification from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc (ABQUARP) - preferred
- Experience in clinical practice with knowledge of utilization review
- Experience on a Utilization Management Committee, or similar role
- Demonstrated commitment to cost-efficient clinical practice
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilization Management: 20%
Lead the Utilization Review Committee and perform secondary reviews to ensure appropriate Levels of Care. Engage in peer-to-peer consultations with payor medical directors to resolve medical necessity issues before claims submission. - Physician & Staff Education: 15%
Educate physicians and clinical staff on regulatory requirements, billing practices, community resources, and end-of-life care. Collaborate with physicians to navigate care transitions and facilitate referrals. - Care Management Support: 50%
Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds, providing guidance to expedite care and ensure accurate LOC designations. Act as a liaison with payers to secure approvals and review long-stay patients for appropriate care levels. - Clinical Documentation Integrity: 15%
Facilitate clinical documentation improvement and provide feedback to physicians on documentation practices.
