OVERVIEW

Under the guidance and supervision of Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for planning and implementing strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors to support the mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This role will focus on personal stewardship of donors/prospects with the potential of making gifts of $10,000 and above. This position will focus on strategically expanding the organization's major gifts program with a secondary focus on enhancing the annual giving program. The Major Gifts Officer is a key member of the development team and will play a critical role in supporting the SVdP mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secure new, renewed, or increased funding from current major donors. The primary method of solicitation for these donors is face-to-face contact.
  • Work with organizations and corporations to enlist their support.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with individual donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders
  • Plan and execute steps for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for Major Gift donors.
  • Work with the CEO, Director of Development and Director of Program & Client services to identify funding opportunities for both Restricted and Unrestricted contributions.
  • Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications on messaging.
  • Analyze major gifts results data and seek ways to build the program.
  • Incorporate personal stewardship of donors into every aspect of your work through personal notes, telephone calls, and recognition of birthdays and anniversaries.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications Department to develop and manage consistent messaging to donors and prospects.
  • Work effectively with Director of Development & CEO to identify new donors and build strategies for engaging and encouraging donors to give at higher levels.
  • Make presentations to groups (i.e. The Martha's).
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent
  • Five (5) or more years related experience in fund raising
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of:
    1. MS Windows (Advanced level)
    2. Preparation and experience of personal solicitations
    3. Grant writing, preferred
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with Donor Perfect preferred.
  • Oral and written communication to wide and varied audiences
  • Read, analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Sound knowledge of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul preferred.
  • Understanding of the basic elements of fundraising.
  • Proven experience with interfacing with donors and prospects.
  • Knowledge of databases and research engines.
  • Ability to collect, organize and analyze data related to donor giving.
  • Well versed in direct mail and digital solicitation best practices and implementation.
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be strategic and forward thinking.
  • Positive attitude and passion for playing a role in fulfilling the organization's mission.
