IT Operations Engineer

The IT Operations Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of sensors, scripting for applications and alerts, and system software and infrastructure. The role is responsible for enterprise applications, infrastructure health monitoring, automation tasks. This will require an understanding of what it takes to develop and maintain scripts of various types. The engineer will be the technical SME for one or more monitoring tools at ABC. The position supports the IT Monitoring and Event Management Operations Manager in product lifecycle, roadmap, documentation, deployments (i.e.: upgrades), incident remediation, product socialization, regular status updates and tool reporting metrics.

Responsibilities:

• Take on primary responsibility for one or more monitoring tools at ABC. That will include activities such as:
  • Creating and maintaining new monitors/sensors/scripts
  • Creating alerts, reports and dashboards
  • Adding integrations into or out of the platform
  • Maintaining a clean environment with limited technical debt
• Acting as a backup for one or more monitoring tools at ABC
• Track and resolve Service Requests and incidents in timely manner
• Collaborate with other ABC IT team to help them take advantage of ABC's monitoring tools
• Inform team of new or updated service standards, systems, procedures, forms and manuals through staff meetings and verbal and written communications.
• Add tasks and update sprint JIRA stories to plan the content of upcoming sprints
• Identify areas of improvements or best practices
• Document processes and operational knowledge base

• Complete needed Change Requests to obtain needed change approval and provide visibility to relevant stakeholders

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience
• General familiarity with system monitoring concepts and tools
• Experience with Splunk, ServiceNow ITOM, Splunk ITSI, Dynatrace and/or PRTG are big pluses
• Candidate should have familiarity with the Azure Cloud environment
• Candidate should have familiarity with job scheduling software.
  • Experience with JAMS or equivalent software
  • Experience with scripting languages like PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar are beneficial

• Basic ability to understand and utilize JSON and Regular Expressions (RegEx).
• Understanding protocols such as HTTP, TCP, SNMP, SOAP, and REST
• Ability to discuss credentials, install a product, troubleshoot permission issues, discuss and troubleshoot network connectivity with network engineers
• Experience analyzing, supporting, and troubleshooting applications for an enterprise at a level 3 function
  • Participation in after-hours support calls to assist solving high-priority incidents
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization
• Candidate should operate autonomously requiring little direction from the IT Monitoring and Event Management Operations Manager on daily tasks
• Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
