Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical and Instrumentation Technician who will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting electrical distribution equipment and components. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and will work as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of our facility.

Responsibilities

• Maintain electrical distribution equipment and components.

• Troubleshoot and replace drives and inverters.

• Troubleshoot motors, PLC's, and field instruments such as flowmeters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, solenoids, and switches.

• Make preventative care rounds and lubricate a limited number of motors.

• Work with the shift millwright and operators to change motors, valves, etc. as needed.

• Troubleshoot and repair valves.

• Work with remote support to troubleshoot drives.

• Read and interpret PLC logic to help diagnose issues and troubleshoot problems.

• Tune control loops as needed.

• Record work results in written log and a computerized maintenance system.

• Work as part of a team and find solutions to issues and problems.

• Work safely and help others stay safe.

• Assist in troubleshooting hydraulics.

• Communicate on radios and phones as needed to make repairs.

• Support a safe working environment by maintaining strict adherence to safety rules and regulations and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.

• Perform other duties as required.

Essential Skills

• Journeyman or proof of completion of related college or apprenticeship program required.

• 5+ years of Instrumentation and Electrical experience in a production maintenance environment. Equivalent military experience will be considered.

• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.

• Basic understanding and capability to troubleshoot and repair Siemens Programable Logic Controllers, SCADA, Ignition, and Siemens drives.

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mill-wide electrical power systems, working with single-phase and 3-phase AC VAC 120/240, and 480, and working with DC voltages ranging from 12, 24, and 500 VDC.

• Computer skills including MS Office and ability to quickly learn new software used in the department.

• Experience with variable frequency drives and field instruments (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, level, and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, valve actuators, and PID controllers).

• Ability to read and understand electrical and instrumentation drawings and PLC ladder logic.

• Operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery including motors, solenoids, servos, pumps, drives, relays, 3-phase power, communication devices, industrial/electronic controls, and power transmission systems.

• Good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Capable of meeting physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs., walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours/day in a loud/noisy, hot, humid, sometimes dusty, and high-volume work environment.

• Must be fully computer literate with a Microsoft environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Applicable military experience/training will be considered.

• Experience working weekends/holidays and on a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and overtime as needed.

• Experience working around heat, noise, both inside and outside.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a loud/noisy, hot, humid, sometimes dusty, and high-volume work environment. The role involves wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhering to strict safety rules and regulations. The work schedule may include weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and overtime as needed.
