ASE Certified Bus Mechanic

Employment Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $37.38 /hour Job Title: Mechanic - Full-Time
Location: Lansing, MI | Schedule: Varies (must be available for any shift, 7 days a week)
Job Summary:
Cardinal Staffing is partnered with a client seeking a dependable and skilled Mechanic. This position involves inspection, diagnosis, and repairs-both major and minor-to a variety of equipment and components. The role covers the duties of Mechanic Second Class, Mechanic Helper, and Utility, with a focus on maintaining safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform diesel tune-ups, overhauls, and component repairs
  • Complete gas overhauls and tune-ups
  • Overhaul light and heavy-duty transmissions
  • Conduct machining tasks (e.g., valve grinding)
  • Repair/overhaul differentials and suspensions (air spring, hydraulic)
  • Service pneumatic and hydraulic systems (brakes, steering, accessories)
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems (starting, charging) and chassis wiring
  • Perform ignition and scope analysis
  • Repair heating and air conditioning systems
  • Install and remove fareboxes
  • Perform welding (general knowledge and basic application)
  • Conduct minor body work and panel replacement
Tools Requirement:
Candidates must provide a complete set of mechanic's tools (excluding special tools) up through 1¼ inch size wrenches and sockets, including metric tools up to 20 mm.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a clean 5-year driving record (required at application)
  • Michigan Chauffeur-based "BP" Temporary Instruction CDL Permit (T.I.P.) prior to hire date
  • Valid Michigan Group B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement within 90 days of hire
  • Industrial Forklift permit within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English with comprehension and follow procedures/policies
  • Must maintain a neat and professional appearance
  • Strong attendance and reliability required to meet service needs
  • Ability to provide prompt, courteous service to the public
  • Must pass physical exam, vision screening, and drug screen from client's designated physician
  • Must pass ASE Preventative Maintenance (PM) test, six (6) Michigan State certification tests, and written qualification test (70% or higher)
Work Environment:
  • Vehicle and maintenance shop setting
  • Requires standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and use of mechanic's tools
  • Must be flexible for various shifts, including weekends and holidays
