Starting Pay Range: $28.44/hr. - $30.28/hr. Plus benefits
Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt (40 hours, with the possibility of occasionally staying late to wrap up calls with volunteers and interns)
Reports To: Volunteer Workforce Program Manager
Location: Portland, OR (requires working in-office)
Schedule: Monday - Friday 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Lines for Life is a non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide and promoting mental wellness. We serve hundreds of thousands of people each year with our programs, services, and policies addressing substance use, suicide, and mental wellness in Oregon and beyond.
Internship Field Supervisor Position Summary:
The Internship Workforce Development Supervisor collaborates with the Workforce Development team to design and run a structured, equitable internship experience for graduate and undergraduate students. The role supports onboarding, provides weekly field supervision, conducts quality assurance, supports ongoing training, and ensures all academic, ethical, and organizational requirements are met. The Supervisor also serves as an in-office backup to Workforce Development leadership to support real-time operations on the crisis lines.
Internship Field Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organization's goals and philosophies
- Complete mandatory training and workshops to continue learning the latest policies & protocols, to stay up to date on crisis intervention tools & techniques, and to meet various internship program requirements
- Participate in intern and volunteer recruitment activities
- Provide weekly clinical supervision to interns (including but not limited to community-based crisis intervention interns & employment-based interns, at both the graduate and bachelor levels)
- Complete internship documentation, including field supervisor applications, agency affiliation agreements, and student evaluations
- Support internship onboardin,g including candidate screening via applications, interviews, reference checks, and paperwork
- Liaise across departments for mezzo & macro level internship project opportunities to meet internship requirements
- Conduct regular call monitoring for quality assurance and training with supervisees, and support call monitoring of other members of the Workforce Development Program as needed (e.g. volunteers, interns, AmeriCorps)
- Support training for supervisees and other members of the Workforce Development program as needed (e.g. volunteers, interns, AmeriCorp)
- This position will complete crisis lines training and be required to take crisis calls as part of that process[CV1]
- Contribute to and update operational procedures for internship processes
- Act as a backup Workforce Development Supervisor, in-office, to members of the Workforce Development team as needed, including:
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching during and after live crisis contacts to ensure crisis lines volunteers, interns, and staff follow protocols and apply best practices for crisis intervention;
- Provide sound clinical judgment to crisis responders during challenging cases;
- Ensure crisis responders submit call reports in an accurate and timely manner with the relevant clinical information
- Establish rapport with Crisis Lines volunteers and interns, and collaborate with the volunteer program team on providing ongoing mentoring and development for crisis lines volunteers and interns
- Submit documentation to the program manager for QA when volunteers and interns deviate from established policies and procedures, and collaboratively determine and enforce appropriate corrective action when necessary;[CV2]
- Triage calls and collaborate with coworkers and volunteers to minimize callers' wait time and ensure that the lines remain available for callers in escalated crisis;
- Assist with developing rescue plans and contacting emergency services when necessary;
- Manage operations in the room, including but not limited to: scheduling breaks, adjusting phone settings as needed and updating staffing spreadsheets, as well as track & report program KPI's;[CV3]
- Maintain a welcoming office environment by stocking and organizing snacks, tracking equipment, and tidying as needed; and
- Perform other duties, such as administrative and organizational tasks as needed.
- MSW Graduate Degree
- Licensure optional, but preferred (e.g. LMSW, LCSW)
- Candidates must have completed their degree at least two years prior to the date of application.
- Strong knowledge of Social Work Code of Ethics
- At least two years of client facing work experience (could include counseling, school setting, hospital setting, crisis work, case management, etc.)
- Experience providing on the job coaching or supervision
- Sound clinical judgement and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
- Cultural responsiveness and the ability to work with diverse groups of people
- Excellent communication and active listening skills
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
- Proficient with computer technology, including medical health record systems, and other Microsoft Office tools
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment and requires the ability to sit or stand and work on a computer for long periods of time
- This position does require working from the Portland office due to needing to be physically present to support the interns working from that location
