Job Summary

Under the direction of the Health-Related Services Director, the school nurse works with families, medical providers, public health, school administrators, teachers, and other school district staff to bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, direct patient care, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.

Essential Functions

- Comply with nursing licensure laws and procedures of the Utah Nurse Practice Act, National Association of School Nursing Guidelines, Utah Department of Health, Salt Lake County Health Department, and Granite School District Policies.
- Adhere to scope of school nurse practice pertaining to patient care in the school setting.
- Provide and facilitate for the medical needs of Granite School District students.
- Participate in case management as a liaison between parents/guardians, school personnel, physician and students with health concerns, consult concerning medical issues and their impact in the education setting, and develop Individual Health Care Plans for students.
- Work with medical professionals, parents/guardians, and Granite School District employees to provide individual care.
- Perform medical procedures including, but not limited to vaccinations, insulin administration,...etc.
- Oversee medication distribution for students.
- Provide nursing consultation and represent Granite School District for the determination of health-related policies.
- Training and delegation of medical procedures including, but not limited to, urinary catheterizations, gastric feedings, carbohydrate counting, use of nebulizers,...etc.
- Develop curriculum, schedule and conduct group and individual training in medical areas including, but not limited to, medication administration, health screenings, CPR, first aid,...etc.
- When appropriate, actively participate on multi-disciplinary school teams to develop supports for students including Individualized Education Plans, 504 plans,...etc.

Required Education, Training and Qualifications

- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
- Requires one of the following:

- a valid, unencumbered Utah Registered Nurse License; or
- an equivalent license in another state.

Required Prior Experience

- Three or more years of clinical experience preferred.

Note: The District reserves the right to make specific requirements for this position, however, when prior work experience has been evaluated to be particularly pertinent, some exchanges between training and experience may be authorized.

Working Environment

- Work takes place in a typical school environment.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
