What We Are Looking For:
GRAMMER is seeking a talented Operations Leader. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team-oriented setting and will have the chance to make positive, lasting changes within our operations
- This role reports directly to the Grammer Tupelo Plant Manager.
- The Operations Leader is focused on achieving budget commitments measured against gross margin, inventory levels, and operational efficiency, while ensuring excellence in safety, customer satisfaction, quality, and on-time delivery.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Develop project plans that include capital needs, launch strategy, project timing, employee involvement, customer representation, and effective cross-functional communication.
- Lead by example to foster a plant culture that embodies the values of CODE – Collaboration, Openness, Drive, and Empowerment.
- Challenge traditional practices and remove barriers to promote continuous improvement.
- Support and uphold safety policies and procedures throughout the facility.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Production Supervisors, Technical Supervisors, and Process Technicians.
- Establish and monitor production department objectives and KPIs.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and resolve conflicts promptly.
- Report KPIs, challenges, and corrective actions to various leadership levels.
- Assess and evaluate team members to promote continuous development and identify internal growth opportunities.
- Assist in setting and tracking key operating objectives for the production facility.
- Engage proactively in future planning and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with floor personnel to ensure product quality.
- Implement process improvements and cost reduction strategies as necessary.
- Ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling to meet customer requirements.
- Support the continuous improvement of Quality and Environmental Systems (TS16949 and ISO 14001).
- Develop and maintain healthy community relations as part of the plant management team.
- Act with urgency regarding customer needs and maintain quality standards while meeting production schedules.
- Set ambitious goals for direct reports and achieve them through rigorous use of continuous improvement and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
- Develop production plans and adhere to Grammer standard processes to ensure feasibility.
- Achieve financial targets by preparing and presenting the Operations budget, managing production costs, maintaining product margins, and monitoring productivity.
- Manage Operations teams to ensure proper staffing, a safe working environment, and transparent communication.
- Meet customer specifications for cycle time, delivery, quality, and cost; implement corrective measures as needed in the production process.
- Coordinate resource planning for inventory, equipment, staffing, and activities.
- Maintain dashboard indicators and status reports for lead time, supply-chain targets, and performance.
- Oversee on-the-job training (OJT) and apply Stop Scrap procedures.
- Cultivate positive relationships between plant supervisors and other departments.
- Facilitate the development of the operational and capital budget.
- Apply GPS (Grammer Production Systems) principles effectively.
- Lead by example in terms of respect, punctuality, consistency, and availability.
Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS)
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and adhere to TS16949, ISO 14001, and 45000 using GPQ (Grammer Produces Quality) methodology.
- Maintain adherence to established policies and procedures regarding safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Address all safety-related issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor departmental safety performance and implement improvements as necessary.
- Ensure workforce completion of all required safety training.
- Conduct safety observation tours at scheduled intervals.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping in designated areas.
- Comply with all safety and environmental regulations.
Quality
- Ensure all Quality Gates, Inspections, and Checks are executed according to the Process Control Plan daily.
- Conduct daily layered process audits and address any findings immediately.
- Approve Operator work instructions and revisions.
- Investigate, communicate, and resolve quality issues promptly.
- Utilize escalation processes as defined.
- Implement containment activities in a timely manner.
- Monitor quality performance through KPIs on the production lines.
- Perform daily scrap reviews and address issues as they arise.
- Ensure compliance with customer quality system requirements and Grammer GPQ system.
- Maintain effective planning and scheduling for production resources to meet production plans.
- Communicate effectively with all departments to resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure proper training and certification of all operators and inspectors in support of the production area.
- Monitor production plan adherence and organizational performance data.
- Participate in Gemba walks to assess operations.
Cost
- Approve and implement engineering and process changes in production.
- Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives, contributing to the Cost Reduction Roadmap.
- Lead kaizen workshops and execute identified improvements.
- Achieve manufacturing KPIs for Safety, Quality, Volume, Cost, Scrap, and Productivity.
- Monitor, track, and meet budget commitments.
- Align resources across Business Units to meet plant priorities.
- Foster a culture of trust, respect, and accountability within the team.
- Train, coach, and inspire Supervisors and Team Leaders.
- Effectively communicate and resolve issues within the team.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to expedite issue resolution.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar leadership role.
- Minimum of 10 years in the Automotive industry or a comparable large-scale manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to plant start-up or high product launch is a plus.
- Experience with plastics is preferred.
- Greenfield/Brownfield launch experience is advantageous.
- Strong background in production management, lean manufacturing, and production systems, including the Toyota production system.
- Proven experience in team management with leadership and coaching capabilities.
- Ability to build and manage a P&L budget, with knowledge in Finance.
- Strong consultative, analytical, time management, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to manage difficult situations, negotiate effectively, and communicate clearly.
- Ability to establish and nurture important relationships based on trust and credibility.
- Driven to innovate and willing to develop new ideas and approaches.
