Principal RF Design Engineer

Job Description

The Business Unit is responsible for the design and production of diodes, MMIC, RF Amplifier Modules and RF Power Transistors. We are currently looking for a Principal RF Design Engineer working in our Integration team located in San Diego, CA, and reporting to the Engineering Director.

A Principal Design Engineer will be responsible for developing RF modules from conceptual to production release phases, according to MACOM's NPD procedures. This includes:
  • Participating to product definition, in order to assess feasibility and define target specifications.
  • Executing schematic circuit simulations and EM simulations.
  • Designing test circuits for evaluation and production testing.
  • Generating layouts and assembly drawings.
  • Device characterization and modeling.
  • Maintaining a fully equipped test bench.
  • Delivering fully characterized prototype samples (RF, thermal). Material procurement for prototypes.
  • Generating design reports, progress reports, test reports, datasheets and bill of materials.
  • Organizing design reviews.
  • Cooperating with Project Manager in order to maintain an up-to-date project plan and schedule.
  • Cooperating with Packaging & Assembly team to ensure compliance to manufacturing design rules and to develop cost effective solutions that lead to high production yields.
  • Cooperating with Product Engineering team for production release.
  • Keeping up to date with latest technologies (semiconductor, assembly, packaging, tools).
  • Customer support (sampling and application notes).
  • Coaching and mentoring of more junior engineers.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering or Master's degree.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with Microwave Power Amplifier design theory and techniques.
  • Familiarity with electrical simulation tools such as MWO or ADS (MWO preferred).
  • Familiarity with EM simulation tools (such as AXIEM or other).
  • Familiarity with Thermal simulation tools (such as SYMMIC or other) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other layout drawing tool.
  • Familiarity with RF measurement techniques for small-signal and large-signal characterization of amplifiers: bench calibration, S-parameters, 1-tone and 2-tone power sweep measurements, pulsed measurements. Load-Pull experience is a plus. Experience of automation of test setup is a plus.
  • Hands-on board level tuning.
  • Good communication, organization and documentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long lasting partnerships. Ability to work in fast pace environment.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

The Salary Range for this position is $98,000 - $166,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates' experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
