Job Title: Part-Time R&D Lab Technician

Department: Research & Development
Reports To: R&D Manager / Food Scientist
Location: Eugene, Oregon

Position Summary

The R&D Lab Technician supports the Research & Development team by preparing samples, executing lab trials, maintaining lab organization, and accurately documenting results. This is a hands-on role focused on supporting new product development while following food safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare R&D samples according to formulas and test plans
  • Accurately weigh and measure ingredients using laboratory scales
  • Assist with lab trials, product testing, and sensory evaluations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe R&D lab
  • Wash, sanitize, and store lab equipment and tools
  • Manage ingredient inventory, labeling, and storage
  • Record formulations, weights, observations, and results clearly
  • Follow GMPs, food safety, and sanitation procedures
  • Support sample preparation for internal reviews or customer presentations
Qualifications

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in a food, lab, or manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
Preferred
  • Degree or coursework in Food Science or a related field
  • Experience with frozen desserts or dairy products
  • Familiarity with GMPs or food safety programs
Work Environment
  • R&D lab and production-adjacent areas
  • Exposure to cold environments (freezers)
  • Requires use of appropriate PPE
