Overview

The Respiratory Manager provides effective leadership and delegation to all Respiratory Department staff by coordination
and integration of services to assure the provision of quality care. Manages clinical operations, department adherence to
regulatory standards, capital and operating budgets, and performance improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for clinical operations with twenty-four hour accountability for the overall efficiency and quality of patient care administered.
  • Oversees administrative functions of the department: assumes responsibility for infection control monitoring, cost effectiveness of supply utilization, monitors scheduling and productivity of staff, preparation of capital and operating budgets, performs quality assurance and performance improvement activities and ensures the delivery of quality services provided by the staff. Assures compliance with Joint Commission (TJC), College of American Pathologists (CAP), state, federal and other applicable regulatory requirements. Ensures adequate staffing for patient needs on a daily basis. Schedules staff based on patient acuity and defined staffing patterns. Monitors multidisciplinary team scope of practice, productivity of staff, use of time and the amount of work assigned.
  • Ensures that the productivity and staff work support the overall operational goals of the department.
  • Manages and directs patient care. Monitors safety of care including the administration of prescribed medication. Monitors clinical documentation in the medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy and compliance with hospital and program standards.
  • Implements program philosophy, objectives, standards of care and procedures on consultation with Administration. Develops and maintains daily communication with attending practitioners and consults physicians regarding patient status and needs. Attends multi-disciplinary teams meetings, representing the Respiratory perspective on patient conditions/progress.
  • Maintains safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Ensures practice that is ethical and in accordance with current practice standards. Establishes and insures implementation of standards of safety and risk management for the departments.
  • Participates in data collection for use in improvement of patient care. Provides Administration with information for making decisions affecting patient care, staffing and program implantation.
  • Monitors patient and family satisfaction for quality of services rendered. Investigates and takes appropriate action regarding complaints with patient care or other services. Ensures patient needs are resolved through use of multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Provides direct patient care consistent with the Respiratory Therapist job description as necessary.
  • Participates in development and maintenance of policies and procedures and staying up to date with best practice standards.
Qualifications

Education / Training
  • Associate's Degree Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree Cardiopulmonary Science or Healthcare Administration
Preferences:
Bachelor's degree, a minimal of 5 yrs. of current Respiratory supervisory and critical care experience from
neonatal to geriatric populations. In lieu of Bachelor's degree previous relevant experience and certifications.

Additional Information:
Requires knowledge and training in all aspects of Respiratory Care including general respiratory care, mechanical
ventilation, arterial blood gas puncture and analysis, pediatric respiratory care, and diagnostic testing.

Experience Requirements
  • 5 to 7 years Supervisory and Critical Care Experience

Preferences:

Level II NICU experience or holds Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (NPS) Credential through AARC

Additional Information:
Requires knowledge of regulatory compliance for blood gas lab in accordance with CAP and TJC standards.
Knowledge and training in pulmonary function diagnostics lab.
